I'm looking into having someone take down the tree closest to my house, flatten out the area, etc. It's getting to be more of a hassle than anything, with limbs constantly falling on the roof, its roots bringing up my cement driveway, helicopter leaves taking over my yard, and way too many leaves in the Fall. Does anyone know services that would do this job? However, with the tree being so big and it being so close to my house, I'm guessing the person/company doing it would have to be insured, so it wouldn't be cheap. Thoughts? Thanks.

My dad found somebody who would take down the tree for $200 and leave me the wood, but he's not insured. Hmm..

Went through the same recently. Had two trees taken down off my curb lawn. Also had a stump grinder take out the stumps. Have to replace the sidewalk where the roots pushed it up. All told, was about $200 for tree removal & stump grinder. Don't think either were insured.

I had a hugh tree just like that in my back yard,.... Orwick Tree Service
He down the tree and removed the root, stump. My son-law and I cut the tree up for fire wood and burned the branches. Big problem was when we got to the main trunk we had to get 30 bar and chain it was to thick for a standard 18" bar. It took a few days for us to clear the wood and another week to split it...


Our tree was very close to the house also and also close to the stone patio Orwick did a great job but it was costly ... $800.00

Did you have to replace the sidewalk because of the damage done while taking out the tree/stump? Or the damage that had already been done before the operation? I'm fine if the driveway doesn't get any worse than it is now; but if taking out the tree ruins it any more, I may have to replace it.

Would you recommend the guy/company you had do it?

When you say "removed the root, stump", how did he do it? Would it rip up my driveway? Or did it seem like a relatively seamless operation? If you wouldn't mind sharing more details on pricing, etc., feel free to PM me. Thanks.

$200 seems pretty cheap but not being insured would worry me. I wouldn't want to make a claim on my insurance if the guy screwed up.

Damage had been done prior. Just replacing sidewalk so kids won't do a faceplant on their bikes.

The trees that I had taken down were < $100. Not sure if this guy would travel out your way?

If it weren't for the little fuckers parents suing me, I would, for the entertainment value alone. For all of the times I've had shit stolen/vandalized it would be sweet justice giving back to the community. :D

The tree was about five feet from our back breaksfast room foundation and part of the trunk was pushing up the patio wall. Orwick dropped the tree to fall away from the house and the root was not pulled out of the ground as the tree fell. He cut away the main trunk and pushed it from the area so he could get to the stump and we could cut it up later. With a stump grinder he rermoved the stump. I had ask him to chew up around the main stump about 4 feet to get thew roots and he did. I had to do a little repair on the patio wall but that was not Orwick fault. The root system had push the wall up, I took some of the wall down and cut away the root that was under the stone ...

$800.00.. I'm sure for $1200. he cut the wood out and take the branches away for you

Damn, that tree takes up almost your whole front yard. I would be skeptical about hiring someone uninsured for a job of that size.

I have a whole front yard. This tree is actually in my "back" yard. But it's so friggin huge and annoying. It's gotta go. Here is a picture of my front yard, and you can see how that tree is engulfing my house:

I would definitely find a company that is bonded and insured and has climbers. Joe Schmoe with a few chainsaws and a chipper would worry the hell out of me with the tree being that close.

When my dad told me about the guy he knows who would do it for $200 (uninsured), I asked him in an email: "Is this guy some hillbilly that'd have my house/video end up on TruTV's "World's Dumbest.." episodes? Or is he a reputable guy?" Haha.

City maintains the sidewalk, not the homeowner.
