Honestly, tackle it.

People are so afraid of pitbulls because they are strong for their size and have sharp teeth, but a strong 45-pound dog is still just a 45-pound dog, and a grown man should be able to handle a 45-pound animal.

Yeah, I'm with isidore on this one. If a dog attacks a child, attack the dog. I would imagine most full-grown men are stronger than a dog.

Guess if you're going to try to take care of it you'll need to (and I can't believe I'm saying this) use Isadore's advice and "bare hand" it.

The gun was assumed in that it's likely the only way you're going to take down a pit before it does significant damage IF it's owner trained it as an attack dog. If he didn't you probably have nothing to worry about in the first place.

I think you are reading too much into my comment. My response was tongue in cheek, given the scenario described it seemed like a safe assumption that someone in the area would be carrying a handgun. No more, no less.

I would never advocate shooting a dog unless it was done humanly to put a dog out of its misery.

I doubt I'll have fun, but I certainly would expect to face and deal with any charges that result from each law that I broke.

Though, I'm not sure a charge like that would stick with multiple children in close proximity. Also, thanks for posting. I was not clear on the law regarding the killing of dangerous dogs.

probably true, they are much more successful at killing the young or the aged.

Not at all. Don't doubt that you were joking but once I saw the mention of a gun in the thread, for some reason, my brain switched to "he's gonna shoot it." After going back and looking at the top of the thread I realized that he had no intention of taking a gun. My bad....not enough coffee yet. :D

The decision has already been made. If a vicious dog attacks one of my children or another child in my presence, I'm going to kill it with something. I just haven't figured out with what yet.

I'm 100% with you on that. Unless it's biting someone who can't protect themself.

Bare hands. Your children will not be in any "line of fire," and I'm sure that you're strong enough to kill a 45-pound animal with your bare hands. Lowest risk to the kids, with a still-high chance of success.

Why don't you contact the correct authorities or talk to the owner and prevent the entire situation. You know...like a NORMAL person would do.

lmao...wtf is wrong with people these days.

No, pit bulls are most likely to kill very young and very old people. Humans are least likely to kill the very young and the very old.

If you're that worried about it just keep small pocket knife or something in your pocket that you can use after tackling it. No danger of hurting anyone else but a little extra help than just going in bare handed. But seriously, I highly doubt this scenario ever takes shape and obviously hope it doesn't.
