Even if he plays a subpar game but hits a game winner...it is a "clutch" moment for him and he'll still be in the clear 'til the Finals begin. There will be "has LeBron turned the corner and become clutch" talk on First Take and other sports talk shows if he makes a GW shot tonight.

If he does become a consistent closer...it will shut a lot of people up in regards to his on-court efforts and his playing mentality (i.e. no longer passive and afraid of the big moment). He'll still have critics but I think that will mostly be because of what Wes mentioned.

The point is that he isn't a closer right now. The what if game is coming a bit too late for him in my opinion. People talk like he's god's gift to basketball, but in this sport you are determined by the championships you win. And to this point, Lebron has as much rings as any of us do in the NBA. He's all talk, no substance.

The whole "rings" argument is so stupid. Robert Horry has 7 rings, he must be better than James.

It's cliche sports talk pumped into your heads by a bunch of "experts" who need something to talk about.

Lebron could win zero rings and he's still better than Kobe, MJ, Magic, etc.

There is no such thing as a closer in basketball, this isn't baseball. There is simply making or missing shots, or making the right or wrong plays. This is a make or miss league. Lebron has better clutch numbers than Kobe does in the playoffs, bet you would have never guessed that huh? Only when your TEAM loses things get put under a microscope, and when you win people look that stuff over and give you a pass.

Correct, a lot of all time great players never won a championship. Lebron will go down as a top 3, top 5 all around player when all is said and done regardless of how many championships he wins.

:laugh:Ok Skip Bayless. Honestly this is a 27 year old guy who is in a 3 MVP club with Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Moses, Bird, Magic and Jordan. That's like the Mt. Rushmore of basketball folks. Sorry he isn't Jimmy Chitwood in every game but to say he has no substance? Come on now this guy is the best player of the last decade

Lebron has had MANY huge playoff games, people only remember the final 3 games in the finals last year(inexcusable) and that game 5 in Boston where he had a subpar game. People don't like him so they want to see him fail which is understandable but atleast be rational.

The stakes were high the other night and he showed up. But I kind of agree that when they've been at their absolute highest in his career...he hasn't done enough to get it done.

I do agree with what some others said too though. Rings definitely build/add to a legacy, but you can be a great player without ring(s). The thing is, there's always going to be that segment of people who will criticize him if he never wins a ring. Is that unfair? Maybe. Probably. But it's just the way it is. You wanna quiet those folks down...ya' gotta win a ring.

Let's be real, that roster was never going to win a title. He took the worst roster in NBA finals history there in 07. The more recent rosters were built for regular season success, much like the current Bulls. Defend at a high level every night and play like a team, but not talented enough to win a title. Those Cavs teams had less talent than the Bulls do however.

Here's what it will be....so everyone take their pick.

The Heat will win it all (2 options)

A. The Heat win it all and LeBron is the MVP.....the media will wear us out for 3-5 days about how he finally did it, how many he'll win and then move on until the season.

B. The Heat win but Wade gets the MVP....they'll still yap for 3-5 days but it will be about LeBron not being able to be the star.

Or

The Heat lose to the Celtics or Thunder and they will take away from the team that goes on to win in and overwhelm talk for the 3-5 days again....but also will just keep being the topic no one wants to listen to every other SC, every third day on sports talk radio....everywhere.

Personally, I like the Thunder and about everything associated with them. But as much as I'm on here, listen to sports radio, watch SC.....I'd prefer the Heat win it all, LeBron win the MVP averaging what he typically does and even win one of them on a GW buzzer-beater.....and then during his trophy awarding apologize to everyone for the hour long special and apologize to Cleveland fans.....and then refuse to talk to the media until the season began.


To me, that would free up a lot of crap to go somewhere else....and just yap about other things. Then they could talk about when Durant was going to win one....but that would be rare and ok to hear for a few minutes.

ESPN and others would find something else to wear out....I'm ready for that.

Why do you watch ESPN in the summer anyway? Just an honest question.

MLB Network is way better for baseball coverage, and the Olympics are starting soon. Euros, if you like soccer at all. Not much ESPN can give me in terms of sports news until football season starts up again.
