I've always been interested in genealogy but I've never really delved into it deeply until recently. I find it pretty interesting to see where my family came from and how they ended up where they did. Is anyone else interested in their family tree?

Jym Ganahl on NBC did a series where he was looking into his family tree, and it got me pretty interested. I just wonder if a site like ancestry.com is worth investing in to research your family tree?

My Dad and a couple of my cousins traced our family back to when our first relative came from Ireland. Most if it done in the 90's with no internet.

I'm heading to Kentucky next week and might stop off to see if I can find the grave of my Great Great Grandpa in Renfro Valley/Rockcastle County. His name was Marvel.

I just traced my dad's side back to the first relative to come to America. One of the things I'm digging about the whole thing is for most of my life I've generally only knew about my family being from Kentucky and to go back further than that to see how the family made it to Kentucky is pretty interesting.

I did it for a summer with my grandma was I was a kid. I don't remember everything, but we started here in Columbus and just kept using records at the courthouses to trace back and slowly we traveled from Columbus all the way to Philly to search the records.

It appears my family first settled in Virginia then managed to make it to Tennessee during the Civil War period and later to Rockcastle County Ky post war. It looks like my Great Grandpa Ransom moved to Harlan County Ky. Possibly following the coal boom of the 1900's.

I know there are still some of my family in Rockcastle County as I was contacted on Facebook by one wanting to know my relatives. It turns it was an ex-father in law of a girl I work with. I've actually found the a picture on the web of my Great Great Grandpa's tombstone. I've found where the cemetary is located, but I'm not sure how accessible it is as it might be up a hollow.

I still have relatives in Harlan County. The Wife and I are going there next week for a little vacation.

My family all hates each other. I know my immediate aunts and uncles on my mom's side but that is it. (and they rarely talk in the last 15 years, since my grandpa died)

My great aunt has been working on ours. I'm a 6th decedent of a king in Ireland.

My ancestors came from Ireland and first settled in North Carolina. Most of them then moved west to Kentucky.
