Bargain on Santana. Can't wait to trade him in 4 years when he is 29/30 and in the middle of his prime.

As for tonight. It is a new day. A righty on the bump for the Sox so we can play our 'A' lineup. Looking forward to seeing Gomez pitch. He had a great spring so hopefully he can build on that. Of course it is going to be 30 degrees so I doubt we get his best stuff.

Agreed it's a great bargain on Santana, although if he develops into the player we hope he can be I'm sure he'd get another extension. Hopefully Masterson is the next guy we lock up long term.

My god what a bargain for Santana. ~$4 mil a year for arguably the best hitting catcher in baseball?

Agreed likely to be an Allstar this year or next

Its a really good bargain. But I hope in 2 years to add another 5 years to it, and pay the guy. Cause, no doubt in my mind, he will leave at the end of this without an extension sooner than later. He will be in the prime of his career at that point. We will have to shell it out.

Ideally, we would develop a servicable catcher so Santana could play 1st base. If Santana continues to develop the Tribe are going to see what the Twins gave Mauer and risks of giving a catcher huge dollars and not do it.

I am so happy that Dolan got a bargain...now he can really go out and spend to make us competitive.

It's chilly and it was hailing/sleeting earlier, but definitely not bad enough to call the game this early. It's about 40 and not even raining on the west side right now.

Is the game going to be made up on Thursday? Double-header tomorrow? Reschedule it for later in the season and hope more people buy tickets?

About 41 and nothing going on right now... I guess they canceled due to the threat of lake effect snow tonight?

CLEVELAND -- Given the way the first four games went for the Indians, an unexpected day off was not necessarily a bad thing for the ballclub. The Tribe received some extra rest on Tuesday, when its game against the White Sox was postponed due to inclement weather.
"For our guys," Indians manager Manny Acta said, "just based on that first series that we had, I guess it would be OK to have one more day off." As of right now, there is no makeup game officially scheduled for the ballgame, though Acta noted that it would likely come during Chicago's return trip to Cleveland on May 7-9. If that is the case, and the club's squeeze in a doubleheader, the Indians could potentially face a stretch of 21 games in 20 days to open the month.

potentially. probably could have played if it was vitally important, though. schedule makers didn't do them any favors with the scheduled return trips to cleveland for the sox - a weekday set in may and the last series of the season in oct

Hopefully Masterson is the next guy we lock up long term.
Seeing some of the deals pitchers have been getting, Masterson is not going to sign for anything beyond 2015 (when he can become a free agent after 2 more years) for anything less than market rate. Maybe a 3 year deal at max, but all that really does is buy out his arbitration eligible seasons.

He will be 30 years old when he heads into free agency, and if he keeps developing he could be in line for a huge deal, likely more than the Indians would be willing to pay.

The Santana deal is a great deal for the club, but all they really did was buy out his arbitration years. He was under club control for the next 5 years anyway, so they hardly extended themselves.

I did like the Dolan comment though in which he basically admitted that they will do these kind of deals as long as they're cheap to do.

I think the Santana deal gives the Indians one extra year of 'control'. I could see this happening with Masterson too....but it will need to be done soon(before arbitration next year). Basically the club gives the player a little extra guaranteed money in exchange for that year. Players, especially pitchers where an injury could severely damage a career, like the security such a deal gives.

Has the Tribe ever hit Danks? Either way, Acta said to hell with Lopez, Donald and Cunningham. Let my lefties hit.

Tribe is rolling out:

Brantley 8
Cabrera 6
Choo 9
Santana 2
Hafner DH
Duncan 7
Kotchman 3
Kipnis 4
Hannahan 5

6 lefties. Good thing none of us wanted a right handed stick for this lineup.

Oh wait...I forgot about Cunningham and Lopez. My bad.

Atleast he is playing his "best 9" guys instead of playing the righty/lefty matchup card.....that really just drives me nuts when coaches do that. Play your best freaking 9 hitters and play the game.

hopefully Masterson can get some run support today...I won't bet on it though.

Tribe will have to put up a minimum of 5 to win after Masterson gives up 4 in the 1st. At least I'll be able to focus at work this afternoon. Not even going to bother to turn on the radio.
