Apparently he grew up a Duke fan and has been contacted by Duke. Duke was not in his final list of schools before committing to MSU. He was down to Louisville, Florida State and Mississippi State.

Louisville would be in the mix, but they just told Jared Swopshire he had to play his Senior year elsewhere (going to Northwestern) and they are still at 14 scholarships right now. So I don't see how they make room for Hood in the next few weeks, so they have to be out of the running right now.

Not really a huge loss for the Buckeyes IMO. Wasn't going to get much time this year and really doesn't have much skill outside of his athletic ability. Wish him best of luck.

Not a huge loss, but it doesn't appear to be a nice split....

Some quotes from JD...
"Basically, he told me I needed to get a fresh start, and he didn't think Ohio State would be the best place for me to get a fresh start," Weatherspoon said.

"He said he didn't think I really cared about winning, that I just wanted to be on the team to be on the team. But I came from a high school team that lost one game a season."

Fairly surprised about the Sibert transferred. Thought he might an opportunity to get more playing time this year but probably doesn't think he can beat out Thompson.

In the past two offseasons it seems like every D-1 school has either lost a transfer or gained one. Its ridiculous.

Another thought, how many transfers have been drafted in recent memory?

Derrick Caracter Louisville to UTEP drafted by the Lakers(got cut earlier this year), is the only one I can think of. Steve Francis, Derek Anderson and Dahntay Jones if you want to go back that far.

Was Tyler Smith drafted (Iowa to Tenn)??

I know of only Jordan Crawford (Indiana to X). But I bet there have been a few others.

Someone out west? Didnt the dude from NM transfer there. Im blanking on his name. Got drafted by Pacers and traded...

Actually I think yes. I knew there was a kid who went west from a bigger school. He obviously didn't get drafted based on azs list

No he did get drafted (I think you may have meant to say "did get drafted"?)

30th overall by the Celtics...he's playing overseas now though.

I had no idea Jack McClinton started at Siena. That 2008 Siena team could have been legit.

Sounds like Mark Lyons and Sean Miller may have some unresolved issues. Kansas or Kentucky could be looking at a serious national title "addition" if he's indeed not heading out West.

Both KU and UK have serious questions and replace major pieces, but both are preseason top 5. I trust both coaches to not take this kid, despite some of the history with him, unless he's willing to fit in. Neither will tolerate the BS and I'm sure this is communicated with Lyons up front.

Lyons has a lot to gain as well. He has NBA aspirations and has already shown some skills. Topping that off by playing at a high-profile, title-contending school AND dispelling the attitude problems could go a long way to helping him nicely into the 2013 NBA Draft, which is VERY weak with SG's.

Lyons to 'Zona F*CK YES! With Turner leaving this is huge for us.

We should at the very least make the Sweet 16 next year with a legitimate shot of reaching Final Four.

Former Ohio State forward J.D. Weatherspoon transfers to Toledo

Former Ohio State basketball forward J.D. Weatherspoon will transfer to Toledo, he announced Tuesday on Twitter.
Weatherspoon participated in 25 games last season, averaging three points in 6.3 minutes. He will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
Weatherspoon (6-foot-6, 215 pounds) wrote on Twitter, "I will be taking my talents to the university of Toledo thank you all for all the support whatever happens I still do it for COLUMBUS."
Weatherspoon played for the same Northland High School team in Columbus that produced former Buckeye standout Jared Sullinger and Big Ten freshman of the year Trey Burke of Michigan.

Looks like Rodney Hood down to Duke and Ohio State. Either school would be getting a potential top 5 pick. He would be a huge get.

I can't see Rodney Hood at Duke, but in fairness that's because he's not white. He's physically weak and loves jacking threes, so that part of his game would be a perfect match.

He'd definitely look good in an OSU jersey though. Smooth player. Just needs to hit the weight room.
