A few years ago, Gateway played Mooney. Gateway's coach was quotes saying "lets show these ohio boys how to play ball"
Mooney went out and soundly beat them. Top to bottom NE Ohio is better than Western Pa.

As far as the smaller schools, there are not very many elite teams in either state, but I would guess more reside in western PA than eastern Ohio.
I lived there for 30 years and the last 9 in Ohio so I am very familiar with both states. My only point is, flip a coin on which would win a matchup.
Ok....Heads I win, tails Ursuline recruits heavily.

The classic recruiting accusations. People need to stop with that "excuse" Most if not all of their players are from the YOUNGSTOWN area.

So i guess it is recruiting if you get players from your own town. Yes i consider all of mahoning county youngstown basically as well as everyone does.

as i recall berwick pa did put one on iggy. i'll take the quips in this match up2002sunset;1125190 wrote:This would be a great matchup every year. I would give at least 50% of the wins to Aliquippa. Some of you guys have those Ohio colored glasses on and are just misinformed. The top programs in Western PA are just as good as the top teams in Ohio. If you think elite teams in PA couldn't put one on Ignatius or whoever you think is the class of Ohio half of the time, you are probably wrong.

The Quips have put out a ton of talent. Sean Gilbert was also from there and had a very nice NFL career. Tony Dorsett, however, did not play for Aliquippa. He is a Hopewell Viking. They have also had success over the years, not like Aliquippa, but success none the less. Depending on the year, the Quips could handle the Irish, but over a 5-10 year period I would put Ursuline ahead.Thinthickbigred;1123648 wrote:I believe the Quips have 3 current NFL players . They are also home to the greatest college basketball player in history ,home to MLB players and a few NFL hall of famers . It is truely incredible with a town just under 10,000 . I am a big Aliquippa fan . Something in the water must be majis when you have Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, and Pete Maravich coming from your town and its a town that is so much like Y.Town and Steubenville with it being a rust belt broken steel town .

Last 5 years i would take Ursuline every single time, i don't look into much of PA football been to a few games Hopewell/West All Farrel/Sharon never seen the quips play unless it was on tv. Similar schools that play with attitude like they have something to prove.

Ursuline plays Strong Vincent Pa this season, how are they as a football school? I know they have a decent hoops program.

I'd say that with the talent Ursuline brings in yearly, they would probably win.

Thanks, I've recently become a fan of the two Youngstown Parochial powers. You'd think that with all the talent they bring in from the Youngstown area and surrounding counties, they could get some kids with a little more character. I realize this is not a common occurrence, 99.9% of the time they bring in good kids, but I have to think that just one day he didn't wake up and decide to be a bad kid.

A doublke header lineup would be Qyups vs Ursulin and PCC vs Mooney

I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. All I'm saying, is that with all the kids that Ursuline and Mooney bring in, 99.9% of them are good kids, and the two schools have a history of bringing in high character kids. This just proves that even the schools that bring in large quantities of kids are going to miss one or two here and there and bring in a kid who's character isn't up to par on what they are accustomed to bringing in....That's all. It's not a slam on Ursuline or Mooney for that matter, they have GREAT track records of bringing in high quality kids....Kudos to them. I would even go as far as to say that the time the kids spend at the two schools once they're brought in, makes them even higher quality human beings in the long run.
