Why are you wanting to trade in your car for the newer one? Does it have a feature that really stands out to you?

Main reason for thinking of trading it in is for the updated style, but there are a lot of new "tech" goodies on the inside. In the end we're probably going to just keep the '09 but I'm at least going to look in to it.

I had a 2006 Fusion. It was a great car. Great gas mileage and great ride. I almost got a 2012 Fusion, but ended up getting a Mustang instead.dlazz;1107131 wrote:That car looks angry. I read online that the Fusion, Focus, and Fiesta are all good cars, but I'm still hesitant to test one out.
I don't know about the Fiesta, I think they're a bit ugly... My friend at work has a new Focus and it's a nice car. Interior is very nice and it gets well over 30 MPG.
I'd say try them out. Also, do not pay sticker for any car. Ask to see the invoice price and compare it to what they're asking. It'll give you some leverage because you know they'll end up making money on any offer above the invoice.

Obtain employment with a company car. That should help.

I've had an 09, 10, and 12 Fusion all company cars, driven a total of over 120k miles on them. They are pretty boring and lack power. My wife has a 2010 Mazda 6 and I'd much rather drive that. Everyone has a different preference though.
You mentioned Mazda 3s, those are much better on gas mileage than the 6 but not much cheaper and quite a bit smaller. The only thing I would say is they have part of that skyactive technology or whatever it is, but that is new and I'm not sure if I'd want to own the first model with it.

Where your company Fusions I4's? The V6 Fusion has pretty good power. Also the newer ones have excellent interior, especially with Ford SYNC.

If you're looking at a Fusion you may want to test drive a Camry. They are pretty similar cars, only difference is that the Camry will run forever

Most don't have issue with it and it's actually a preferred practice for the consumer.

I sold cars for a short time. The invoice represents what the dealership in that particular region paid for the car and does not disclose the dealer hold back or dealer engagement amounts. A salesman will have no problem showing an invoice to an asking customer nor will he show it to a customer that does not ask. When I worked as a salesman I learned not only how to sell cars but how to buy them. One thing that is very important is to ask to see the invoice and if they don't show you hit the road and go elsewhere. Most dealerships make the most of their money through service and can sell their cars for little to no profit because of their various entities within such as service, parts, detail, body shop, and used cars which profit them much more than new. Most of the time unless a salesman is lucky will end up with a mini (usually $150) on 95% of their sales so they don't care as much about how much they get for one sale as they do quantiity which effects their monthly bonuses. If you think you can buy a car at the end of the month and get a better deal is bogus, salesman will sell you a car at any point in the month for the same deal in hopes of reaching their bonus, in fact they may be a little more agressive at the beginning of the month as it is slower and in hopes of jump starting their month.WebFire;1107422 wrote:If I were a car salesman I would not show you the invoice.
Play your cards right and you can walk away with the best deal you can get.

I test drove the Mazda 3 today, and the dealer was awesome about it...they do the no-hassle method. I walked in, told them what I wanted to pay...but it came out way too high.
I'm going to test drive a Fiesta later this week, me thinks.
