I wouldn't bet against Bob McKillop manufacturing at least a scare of a top team in the first round. It's definitely not the Curry-led team of 2008, though, that's for sure. That was a really good team.
I just dont expect them to get a seed they can work with. I know Kansas is a 1, but that game was an anomaly of both teams. If Davidson can get a decent seed, maybe. But I dont think they will be matched up with anyone they can beat.

In addition to the KU win, Vandy only beat them by 4 and Duke by 13 (not that close, but not a total beatdown).

They won't be one of my upset picks, but they've hung pretty well in bigger games this year.

I'm thinking Davidson will get a 13 or 14, which would make them eligible to play a team such as Georgetown, Wisconsin or Florida State (among several others). I think they might be able to hang with that tier of teams. It just depends. That's what makes March so much fun. It's utterly unpredictable.

Agreed. Why I think they could generate an upset, they won't be one of my upset specials.

I'm thinking more 11-13 range for Davidson

That win over KU will make the committee salivate

If they are 11 or 12, they can win. If they get 13-14 it will be tough. 13 over 4 they could pull, but I dont see them beating a 3 seed. Even the 4 seeds as they stand now will be tough because they play defense (wisconsin/FSU/GT).

Western Kentucky, fired their coach during the year, at one point were 6-15...now playing for a bid.

They have a very talented ground of Freshman and Sophomores, probably 2 years away from making real noise, but have some talent.

Like Mulva wants, North Texas has the best player in the league and WKU could be a huge surprise. Either way, should be a decent final tomorrow night.

Loved the "Good Guy Greg" sign that one of the Davidson fans had. :D

Edit: had to find a photo that didn't block out the bottom part of the meme.

Beats Kansas
Wins SOCON

Nonchalantly
Accepts #15 seed

The Big East game I'm most looking forward to -- if it is to happen -- is the Syracuse and West Virginia rematch in the tournament quarters. The alpinists' season took a turn for the worse after their much analyzed 63 to 61 loss in the Carrier Dome in late January. West Virginia rolled into Syracuse with a mark of 15-6 and left with an excruciating loss that sent the program downward spiraling to a 4-6 finish.

Bob Huggins vs. Jim Boeheim: Part II would be great.

Or another 6 OT game between 'Cuse-Uconn.

Wouldn't it have been easier and more accurate to type "Mountaineer". ALPINIST--Really!!Based on the appearance of the WVU mascot I am not sure the words Mountaineer and Alpinist are synonymous. It is difficult to visualize a man wearing a buckskin suit and coonskin cap with a rifle and a gunpowder horn scaling the mountaintops.Hey,whatever floats your boat.

Lol yeah that would definitely be great. I was in my final year of college at the time and watched the original with my Dad. Watching that classic unfold with him (he's also a huge fan of Duke and college basketball) until the early hours is just a great memory. After each OT concluded, he started to yell out the number of the next period. Four! Five! Six! I was literally convinced that the game was not going to end. We'll never see another one like it.

Lol, um, who cares?

Alpinist is a cool-sounding word and shorter than "mountaineer," so I used it. Next time, if I decide to deviate from the course, I will be sure to refer to West Virginia's team of rugged outdoorsmen by something more technical, such as the Hinterlanders, since they do carry muskets around the court and all.

If Western Kentucky wins tonight, I see them as the #16 seed that plays Kentucky (avoiding the play-in game, despite being 15-18). Ray Harper, newly appointed coach of WKU after the firing on Ken McDonald, went to 6 straight D-II National Championship games with Kentucky Wesleyan from 1997 to 2003. The Kentucky native went 242-45 at KWC. Would be yet another "story" of the early rounds.

I still think if Mississippi Valley State ends up 20-1 in their league, I see them moving up to a 15th seed possibly and playing Duke in round 1. MVSU is coached by former UK guard Sean Woods, most famous for hitting the shot before "the shot" by Christian Laettner 20 years ago.

I have fond memories of it as well. I had trouble getting to sleep that night I was amped and was running on fumes at work the next day and was happy as hell. I'm telling my 60-year old female co-worker about the game like she knows what I'm talking about. LOL. I was that excited.

I don't think we'll ever see another game like that either. Simply amazing.

Hopefully they will show it before the night session as well. No TV in the office, unfortunately. Maybe I should call the front desk and pretend to be a terrorist bomber like Jerry on Seinfeld so I can catch the 2:00 game. Talking to George Steinbrenner: "Yeah, this is the terrorist bomber..." Lol one of my favorite episodes.

I think you should go with "Backwoodsmen".

Do you live in a forest or something? My apologies if I have affronted your kinfolk.

Out of respect to an episode of the Simpsons, you should call them "Sons of the Soil".
Dr. Hibbert: And hillbillies want to be called "Sons of the Soil," but it ain't gonna happen. (Laughs)
