The Blanchard Valley Conference is contacting several "unnamed" schools to see if they have any interest in joining the BVC. Since the BVC already has 10 members does this mean that someone (Vanlue, Hardin Northern) will be leaving? Any ideas on who the schools are that the BVC has interest in?

Riverdale and Carey would me my picks. I don't think the BVC will kick anyone out, but look to expand and do divisions, which I'm not a big fan of. I honestly think it's silly that Hardin Northern was talking about not fielding a team.

I've heard that the BVC has interest in Hopewell Louden which geographically doesn't make a lot of sense. Ada and Bluffton would make sense. I like the addition of Riverdale and Carey also but both have committed to the new Northern Ten or whatever they're calling it League. Carey and Riverdale already play most of the BVC teams in other sports so they would be the logical picks. I thought maybe the BVC was getting tired of the chance that Vanlue or Hardin Northern not being able to field a football team or start a season but not be able to finish and we're looking to cover that possibility before it happens. Riverdale would not be competitive in the BVC until they can get more than 24 kids out for football (that's ridiculous in my opinion for a D-5 school) Carey would be competitive with the better teams right off. (same size of school as Riverdale with 70 kids playing football). Hardin Northern fielded a Jr. High team this season with pretty good numbers so maybe they are on the way back. Vanlue because of their size will always have low numbers and will never win more than a game or two. I worked with Vanlue's coach (at Cooper Tire) he has a lot of enthusiasm and is always optimistic but the reality is they won't win many games and Hardin Northern now for the same reasons will be a bottom feeder in that League.

Don't forget the leagues don't pick entirely off football and their records. Riverdale is not a football powerhouse by any stretch, but they do travel well and would bring great gates. Also, they would be competitive in every other sport, especially on the girls side. And geographically, they make sense.

Also, Riverdale's board has not approved the move to the new league. I'm sure they are waiting to see if anything happens with the BVC.

Also, I hear people mention Ada and Bluffton. With all the bitching about Liberty-Benton's size, why would they bring in more D5s? Carey and Bluffton is D5, and Riverdale bounces between D5 and D6. This leads me to believe the issue with LB isn't size, but jealousy of recent success. I say put up or shut up.

Carey also like Riverdale bounces between 5 & 6 while Bluffton will always be a 5 and so far Ada has always been a 6 although they are nearly the same size of school as Riverdale and Carey. Liberty really only dominates Boys basketball and Track and Cross Country. They are more dominant in girls sports especially track and CC. A big school like that and they don't wrestle (seems odd) You are right in your assessment of Riverdale, their girls would be competitive in all sports and the boys everything but football (no reason that they can't get back to what they used to be in that) I played against Riverdale from 1968-71 in football and they were very good then. Is there a timetable when the BVC will make a decision? I think Carey's board has already approved the move so that may eliminate them from the BVC picture although that is where I would like to see them end up. We played Liberty Benton 11 times through the late 70s and 80s and won 10 of those games but now they seem to be much better than they were then and I can't ever remember beating them in Basketball (although it may have happened)

The BVC has no timetable because technically they aren't taking any action on anything. They just sent out some feeler letters.

Riverdale could be good in football if the kids would go out. People always sayd it's "kids these days" but I call BS. Carey is the same size and get 50-60 boys out. Arlington gets their 40 or so. LB has good numbers. Yet, Riverdale is a D5 and had 23 kids last year.
