Because he is a far better TE prospect than DE prospect at this point.

He is? He plays in an offense that throws the ball 4 times a game and is more of a blocking TE. Last year he had 9 catches in 12 games. I don't think he had been rated by any of the services as a DE so there is no way to know where he is a better prospect at.

Like I said, he is starting out at DE, if Notre Dame doesn't sign any other TEs or he gets on campus and DE doesn't work out, he can move to TE. Could even grow into a tackle depending on how he develops.

James Onwualu is announcing tomorrow morning. Was supposed to visit Michigan today or tomorrow and then Ohio State this weekend. OSU just offered within the last week.

Steven Elmer - * * * * - OT (Michigan) - 6'6 300lbs - Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, Wisconsin
Jacob Matuska - * * * * - DE/TE (Ohio) - 6'4 245lbs - Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma
James Onwualu - * * * - WR/RB (Minnesota) - 6'2 205lbs - Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State

With Junior Day/Spring Game right around the corner (I think?) I wouldn't be surprised to see 1-3 more commitments shortly.

NCAA approved Amir Carlisle to compete this season, which is good.

A former coach of Shepard said Tee had minor heart surgery a few weeks ago and that he will need medical clearance before trying to play football again. A return to Notre Dame isn't ruled out if he gets cleared.

I take number 1 is gunner? The qb battle is going to be very interesting. As long as its not Rees in happy with either golston, Hendrix or gunner. I have a feeling it's going to be golston

If Gunner picks up the play book and shows a decent level of comfort, I think he wins the job. Early enrolling is absolutely huge for him. BK gushed about him during the presser while talking about his tools. He nitpicked Golson's decision making and reading the field, which are two things Gunner excels at. It's obviously really early, but just by reading body language you could see BK light up when discussing GK vs the other qb's. One thing is certain, we shouldn't have to talk about Rees anymore.

I'm sure his words meant nothing. He wasn't going to say anything bad about a freshman who just started his first couple college practices. But golston has been there last year so he expects more from him and will criticize. I still think it is wide open but as long as its not Rees in happy

Irish Illustrated ‏ @NDatRivalsAaron Lynch on the mindset he shares with Stephon Tuitt on the field. “We both have an intensity to go out there and kill.”
