No question, we could definitely use Greg Oden's penis batting clean up...from the right side of the plate of course.

Apparently. Maybe his shoulder though. Out 4-6 weeks. Tribe getting bit with the injury bug early.

Oblique strain suffered during his first bullpen session yesterday. He's out 4-6 weeks but hasn't been ruled out for opening day.

This is really shaping up to be a banner season already.
With no depth left in the farm system it is imparitive this team stay healthy, which clearly is not happening.

It doesn't really matter that they have no depth in the minors because they have been accumulating it throughout the off season. If Perez is out for longer than 4-6 weeks then Pestano steps in to close and one of the numerous relievers they have in camp goes to the front-end of the bullpen. It sucks but isn't the end of the world.

Tribe preview from Jonah Keri. Nothing that we haven't discussed on here over the winter.

Question for those who are more informed baseball fans. Are there really people who buy homes and plan their vacation around the area that teams do their spring training? If so I take it there is more to spring training than I assumed. I always figured it was simply the team practicing and maybe playing other teams but if people are buying houses and planning vacations around it then there must be more. Correct?

What I would give to have those 4 players in their prime.
Sandy, Kenny, Albert, and Carlos (bring back the 90's, please)

Having been to a few spring training games myself, it is quite believable that people do this. At the games, you can get up close and personal with the players. Imagine going to the ball diamond to watch your high school team play. That's kinda what it's like.bigdaddy2003;1098972 wrote:Question for those who are more informed baseball fans. Well, if you are a baseball fan its great. You get a lot of teams in close proximity (Arizona and Florida in particular). You go to eat at a restaurant, and from personal experience, you are almost guaranteed to run into someone each night. These places are decent vacation spots anyway, so you just have a normal vacation, but then throw in golfing behind your favorite baseball player and it adds to it. You pretty much meet anyone you want, if you go to a few games. Its very laid back and you can hold conversations with these guys.
Keep in mind, they are only at the facility for work hours really. They are people too. They go to the movies, golf, swim, go to dinner, etc. Your on vacation, but you have a baseball team (sometimes, multiple) in the same town. The towns are relatively small as well, which makes it even more up close and personal.

Pretty cool. How about bring Albert Belle back to replace Grady?

Ha. Did you see a picture of old Albert? Not quite game shape. Although he'd probably get less injuries that Grady.

Carlos is trying hard to get Albert to come back to Cleveland for a game. I for one would definitely be at that game. Sure he left for more money, but Thome was way worse and he's getting a damn statue as well as a standing ovation. I hope he makes the trip up sometime.

Man he def is fat now, but he was a lot of fun to watch. Most feared hitter in baseball during his time.

Didn't read the article but he said after he left he "regretted it." Said something to the effect of "every night in Cleveland was like a rock concert, then I go to Chicago and there are like 14 fans in the stands at Comiskey."iclfan2;1101131 wrote:Carlos is trying hard to get Albert to come back to Cleveland for a game. Heard on 92.3 this morning that they are going to have a press conference regarding Sizemore today. Speculation is that it may be to announce very bad news (done for the year), perhaps even a retirement.

Retirement would be great news. We wouldn't have to pay his useless ass. If Grady had any integrity he wouldn't take a paycheck from the Tribe.BR1986FB;1101645 wrote:Heard on 92.3 this morning that they are going to have a press conference regarding Sizemore today. The tribe of 93 through 99.....a slice of heaven. Some of my happiest summers ever. didn't win it all....but sure had our chances.
Younger fans don't understand what that period meant. Die hard baby boomer tribe fans had seen 33 years of horse $hit baseball. And then....new park....and a whole pile of young baseball stars that came up together. The 95 team was mesmerizingly good. They pounded people all yeaer long. they had it all...and they were 10 games better than the Braves in the regular season.
After that year, MLB no longer permitted umpires to have "their own strike zone". They saw how that crap ruined the World Series that year.
