This was an absolute incredible movie.
Probably one of the best I have ever seen.
The story was fictitious but it was based of actual events.
On the link I provided there is a behind the scenes video
It tells a great deal.
Just before it started the directors talked about it which is the first time I have ever seen that happen.
They told about how they came about using actual Navy Seals instead of actors.
Yes their lack of acting ability showed with some of the dialog at the beginning of the movie but it did not matter. It was a very moving and powerful story.
One thing I got to say.
I always knew Navy Seals were bad asses and I had a great deal of respect for them but it has increased.
Did not think that could have been possible.
I am so glad they are on our side.

In case ya havent read that other thread, my brother went to see it and he was on 3 deployments in just under 5 years of time as a team guy.
His 1st deployment I knew where he went. 2nd I am about 50% sure I know and the 3rd I have no idea. He got to see an early screening and I figured he would bash it but said it was very good.

Pretty darn close to what he experienced. A couple of things on the OPS he said were plausible, but not probable. The only things he said that werent realistic was the same SEAL team getting all those ops, but it was a movie so that is pretty much how it had to be, and that some of the guys didnt look like they were in 'operating shape' as he put it. Their workouts are so intense that the team gets pretty ripped for their tours.


CHeck out the BUD/s 234 class training that was on Discovery..pretty cool shit

I did not see it.
I am not on here several hours a day like a lot of people are.
I thought I would give my 2 cents and tell everyone here how good it was.
When the one SEAL came out of the water to catch that guy after the kill shot my reaction was how awesome these guys are.

No problem. I think he said that the part you are talking about was the far fetched part where he rolled his eyes but other than that it was excellent.

How did you get to see it? Thought it comes out the 28th or whatever?
I got to hang out with a number of those guys over the years. I have to say my impression of them changed a bit as most of them were the nicest guys ya could imagine in a normal setting. I figured alot of arrogance and such. Now..dont get me wrong...they can get pretty damned rowdy. Went out with them on their pre deployment parties for two deployments and, yeah, it got pretty damned crazy, but in a normal setting they were as cool as could be. Doesnt mean that some arent total asses and jerkoffs (like the one recently out in Calif who accidently shot himself at like 2am showing off to a girl he took him from a bar) and I imagine some people who havee been around them may have a diff view than I.

He loved his time in. He wanted to be a SEAL since he was a frosh in HS. He instead went to college, got his engineering degree, worked a year in his field (in which he swears his office was where Office Space was based on) and then enlisted for the sole purpose of getting into the teams. The BUD/s class is extremely difficult. I believe 168 started the pre-BUDS class. Around 130 made it through pre-buds to the actual class and less than 20 made it through the first try. The thing that got old for him was the traveling across the country for training. He was rarely at his condo for more than 10-14 days at a time before he had to go to some base or school. He said if more of the training was local to his duty station then he woulda maybe stuck around longer. He would joke that on deployment he got to sleep in the same bed on consecutive nights then he did while back in the states!

My brother def never advertised it. When he was dating the woman he ended up marrying he would be at her family reunions and gatherings. There was an ex Army guy who was a cousin of hers and he asked what he did....all he would say he was in the navy. So of course the guy razzed him about it at each family function. He asked what ship he served on and he said he doesnt serve on one it got even more intenst ribbing and mocking how he was always just state-side and such.

It wasnt until the wedding, about the 4th or so time that he met him, that he actually found out that he was a SEAL! Lets just say...he hasnt razzed him since. I know the 5-6 times I went down there and we all hung and did stuff together ya never saw the guys bring it up and such. Very humble.

Like i said..there will be assholes out there, but as you said most are ones who are TRYING to get into the program! WHen he was enlisting and such he wouldnt tell anyone that he was on a SEAL contract to go to do that. Family and close friends new, but he knew all about the attrition rate. He wasnt afraid of not being able to make it through......but getting injured or severly sick going through it. He got cellulitis a couple of times, suffered a torn tricep but still make it through BUD/s.

Well he did motivate me enough to enlist into the Army reserves.....at the age of 35 and graduated basic from Ft Benning through a summer cycle.
Ya can make fun of it being the army, or reserves all you want, wont bother me. Yeah, he has the man genes, and I would like to think that maybe I do as well in taking upon the responsibility I have. I havent been overseas yet, but volunteered to go with two out of state units but didnt get to go as they were wanting higher ranking guys. Yeah..maybe with my wife I dont have any balls, but I think I am attempting to do my part for this country.

but anyways...back to act of valor.

I'm not calling you a liar, but all my time in the military, 2001-2007, I have never heard of someone volunteering and getting turned down for that particular reason.
