I think that some OC individual have a poor conception of the complexity of having accuracy with a hand gun. Remember that the slightest movement of the barrel produces a greater degree of missing the target. Incidentally, the math on this at 15 feet a pistol canted just five degrees will miss a human sized target.</SPAN>

Who of the OC has actually has fired a pistol (9MM and up) at a target or object?

What is your proficiency level with a hand gun?
(At 18 feet what is your average grouping radius for 8 rounds in a 6” bull’s-eye target taking your time). We all know what happens with an inexperience shooter in a rapped fire situation.

I'm going shooting this weekend for the first time in years. Any tips? They have hand guns from 9mm all the way up .45s. I'd like to try a .40 but most likely will use a Glock 19 or Sig P226

Why 9mm and up? I usually shoot .22 just because it's so much cheaper. And I have no idea of grouping or targets. We just plink at pop cans or milk jugs.

I knew a guy who was killed with a car muffler. I think you're underestimating the deadliness of a blow to the head with a metal object.

For a quick review go on YouTube (Todd Jarrett pistol shooting) for some quick pointer on how to hold the weapon, stances, shoulder position and trigger finger. Shooting a hand pistol like golf lots to remember and lot to perform just right for the perfect shoot and grouping

If you never fired a hand gun before I would suggest starting with a 9mm and get comfortable using it and work on getting a good grouping at 15 to 18 feet out.

I use a Sig P220 .45 try it before leaving the range &#8230;. 9MM vs .45 enjoy..
Just for fun rapped fire the Sig P220 .45 with a 8 rounds . You may not stay on target but you&#8217;ll go home feeling good. :D

I sometime will use a .22 also at the range for training. I suggested a 9mm because that is more of what is the weapon use for police and ccw in general.

They have the P220 to rent. The only problem is you have to buy full boxes of ammo, so i might just stick to one gun. Depending how much the rounds are and if i can split a box with my buddy i'll try it.

General pricing of a box of 50 rounds .45 is $20.00 / 21.00 ( I get then little cheaper at Kames)

The kick of a .40 is a pain the ass. Stick to 9mm or .45.

I'm a 3" group at 10 yards and 5" at 25 yards. If I can't hit that with a gun within 250 rounds, I sell the gun.

Really? That good shooting What your pistol?

I never when beyond 35 feet .
At 15 feet my 8 round grouping is bullseye but just a little low/left of center, frustrated but I'm good with that.
At 35 feet still a good grouping 3" or so and still low/left a bit more..

Have fired various hand guns of different caliber. Totally agree with you, they take a lot of practice.

I'd think anyone who's responsibilities include carrying a gun would take the necessary time to practice and become a marksman.
I know plenty of individuals who are not law enforcement officers with excellent hand gun skills. Not sure how many of them have been in a situation where their target was also armed and aiming back.

I shot my husband's 9mm once. That was enough. Have no clue how accurate I was but I know how to load it and if you break in my house when he's not here, I will shoot it in your general direction. I think that's good enough.

Good point in the original post, Belly! BRF has fired hand guns and not very successfully on the accuracy part. You are right, most people don't realize. I read somewhere that even police in a close-in shoot out have a hit percentage of only around 60%.

I shoot a couple of pistols quite often.I agree it is hard to be a crack shot with any hand gun.Practice is the key.I shoot two revolvers in .357 and a SW 9mm and a 1911 in .45ACP. I tend to shoot the 9 and my carry .357 the most because ammo is affordable and they are what I carry(read:can actually be concealed and comfortable to wear 12-14 hours a day). At the range I frequent the pistol berm is 10 meters posted but right at 28 feet in reality. 4-6 inch groups from varying positions is my norm with my strong hand, weak hand is less than acceptable but I am working on it. Muscle memory and sight picture are key in accuracy and can only be accomplished by lotsa' lead down range. By the way I practice with .38 special in my stubbie but always finish off any session with a cylinder of 158gr personal defence rounds in .357 cause thats whats in the tube for protection purposes.
