I wouldn't say GSP dominated Hardy at all. He really just laid on top of him and caught him close to a submission a couple of times.
He didn't inflict any real damage on Hardy. I guess that's how the UFC scores it though so you have to give it to GSP for using the scoring system to his advantage. It was an awful fight though.

It wasn't an awful fight. It wasn't an action packed fight, but GSP is one of the smartest fighters in the game.eersandbeers wrote:LTrain23 wrote: This is just straight domination by GSP.

It was no doubt a domination. Dan Hardy couldn't do ANYTHING and everytime he tried, GSP either got him to the ground, or reversed position. That is domination.
I know GSP wanted to end the fight before the final round, but dan Hardy has a lot of heart... Doesn't mean he wasn't physically dominated though. Anytime one fighter holds constant position throughout 5 rounds, it's domination.
One guy who left no doubt was Shane Carwin. He lit Frank Mirs face up with some brutal uppercuts, then Mir got pummeled (again) in the face while on the ground.
It's going to be a VERY interesting fight between Lesnar and Carwin.

Domination to me just doesn't include laying on top of someone for 5 rounds. Domination includes inflicting damage on your opponent. GSP didn't inflict any damage whatsoever on Hardy.

If that wasn't a dominating fight, I don't know what is. Everyone knew what GSP wanted to do including Hardy, and Hardy couldn't do 1 thing to stop him. I'm pretty positive he was 100% on his takedown attempts, he didn't get stuffed or stopped once. That's pretty dominating, imposing his will for 25 minutes.eersandbeers wrote: Domination to me just doesn't include laying on top of someone for 5 rounds. Also, what did Hardy do at all offensively? I honestly don't recall Hardy doing anything at all besides 2 upkicks from his back.

I don't even see it as GSP imposing his will. He was good at takedowns. That's all I saw from that fight. Not much more.Benny The Jet wrote:If that wasn't a dominating fight, I don't know what is. Hardy did nothing at all either. That was somewhat my point.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it Pride that doesn't award points for simply taking people down? You must actually inflict some type of damage to win a round.

Well Pride doesn't do anything seeing how that organization folded years ago
GSP clearly dominated Hardy. He didn't just lay on him. He tried to finish him a few times with submisions. Most people would have tapped to the arm bar and Kimura. I am a huge GSP fan .. and never cared for Hardy at all until that fight. But Hardy desersves a hell of a lot of credit for making it through those sub attempts.

I do agree that GSP didn't do much damage to Hardy, but you cannot deny he fought a very smart fight. He knew the only way Hardy was going to beat him was in the standup game. Georges knew that on the ground he was far superior to Hardy. He used his greatest strength (wrestling/takedowns) to his advantage and controlled all aspects of the fight. GSP definitely wanted to finish the fight, but Hardy displayed great toughness in not tapping. The armbar and the kimura were both pretty deep. Most fighters would have tapped out pretty quickly in both situations.
I'm really looking forward to 112. While I don't think either championship match will be that tightly contested, I always look forward to watching Anderson and BJ fight. I'm a big fan of watching greatness on display, and those two are undoubtedly great.
While looking over the fights though, I had to start wondering what else Gray Maynard has to do to get a shot at BJ. He is 10-0, has defeated Nate Diaz, Roger Huerta, and even Frankie Edgar. The only downfall I can see is that his fights tend to end up at decision every time, but he still wins. When does Gray get a shot?

Yeah I know Pride is done, but I was trying to think of the organization that didn't award points for not inflicting damage. Much like GSP did on Saturday.RelsonGracieBJJ wrote: Well Pride doesn't do anything seeing how that organization folded years agoGSP clearly dominated Hardy. He didn't just lay on him. I'm also not trying to take shots at GSP. He is amazing and I think that is really beyond dispute.

GSP is the man and he executes a game plan every fight. With that being said he is BORING. Don't get me wrong I am not like the fans that attend the fights and boo but I can't say he is a favorite fighter of mine.

Ok so your point is mute. GSP dominated in the way the UFC scores fights.eersandbeers wrote:Yeah I know Pride is done, but I was trying to think of the organization that didn't award points for not inflicting damage. No, he didn't f'up his face like Carwin did on Mir, but he still dominated Hardy on the scorecard.

He inflicted no damage?
Anyone who says that has never been caught in an armbar or kimura that deap. Both of Hardy's arms are messed up right now.

Anyone who thinks GSP did not "dominate" Hardy has no clue what MMA is. Why do you think Hardy was so quick to raise GSP's hand immediately after the fight but before the winner was announced? BECAUSE HE KNEW HE WAS DOMINATED!

GSP DOMINATED Hardy, that's it.
Also, I can't stand fans that just want to watch a stand-up fight, if they just want to watch that, they need to go watch Boxing instead.

Having trained BJJ and some MMA for a few years now (mostly BJJ), I'll restate my post just a few up...
Anyone who says GSP didn't do any damage has NEVER been caught in an armbar or kimura that deep, period.
Hardy's elbow and shoulder are messed up right now and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't need surgery.
Damage is not ONLY to one's face in an MMA fight, this isn't boxing.
