Winning and academics were a SMALL fraction of what this man did and accomplished. What he did working with young adults, turning boys into men, teaching and guiding, etc, etc, etc. is what JoePa is about. Anyone who played for him, would say the same, and probably more. YES, he made a HUGE mistake. No question about that. But what he did over all those years, far outweighs the mistakes he made. I am sure NO ONE felt worse than he did. Its so easy to make judgements from the outside. We probably don't know 90% of the facts. I am not condoning, nor so I believe he is free of fault. But NO ONE, I mean NO one is perfect. THis guy did many, many GREAT things over his life. There's no right or wrong way to eulogize Joe Paterno, the situation is too polarizing for there to be a proper concensus on his legacy, but that won't stop people from attempting to provide one. You either want to erect more staues or tear down the ones that already exsist.
Maybe once the trial goes down, the moral compass will begin to point in the direction it should as far as legacies are concerned, but for now it's all been said.

I will choose to remember JoePa for all the good he did and not the mistake he made. I know he tried to do the right thing but then went along with others instead of sticking up for what was the right thing to do. This can happen to anyone. I will forgive his mistake and remember his as a legend.

I said this awhile ago, but I'm surprised he lasted this long. It's shocking and at the same time not surprising that he's gone just 2 months after he was removed as coach.

RIP JoePa, because death is a sad thing and I would never be happy about someone passing.
That being said, JoePa will aways be remembered for his gigantic gaffe in judgement. I don't care how much good he did throughout his life, it doesn't make up for his negligence. Also, please spare me the "he followed protocol bullshit."

Jerry Sandusky also helped many kids and helped change many young adults into men. Many people probably owe a great deal in their life to him. But you know what, he is a piece of shit. Paterno isnt as bad, but neglecting child rape out does any good he did.

Exactly what more do you want the guy to do. His best friend was accused of (supposably by mcquery) raping a child. The fact mcquery is changing his story almost everyday is enough to know that maybe he didn't tell paterno everything he saw or what he saw. If I was joe pa I honestly would have done exactly what he did. Report it to my supervisor and get it out of my hands. I will always consider joe pa as a legend and the best football coach ever.

85 years is a pretty good run. He outlived the expectation by several years.
I don't really get the fascination with legacies. He's dead. What people think of him doesn't matter at this point. Nobody will ever know exactly how much he did or didn't know regarding Sandusky, and nobody here is the moral authority to be judging him either way.

Of course he said he could of done more after he found out all the victims and the extent if it all. All he knew before this was the shower thing and he was barely told anything by mcquery about it.
