So are the Giants and Jets. Doesn't stop them from getting 650% more media attention than the pro team in Cleveland. Woodward is going to play in Columbus which, isn't even Cleveland! You want to talk about not being in the major market? Columbus is major podunk. I know, I've been there. Strip malls and a lot of nuthin. Honestly, why a kid would leave the most densely populated region in the country to go play football in rural Ohio for a bunch of people in Ohio, is crazy.
You exist because you got there first but when we close the gap, and we're closer than ever, there won't be a bigger program in America. Darius Hamilton, Savon Huggins and a bunch of other kids are going to be the one's who do it. My hope is Woodward has enough time to realize that his childhood notions about what he thinks Ohio State is vs. what it really is are two completely different things.
Of course he should stay home and build his life here, where his family, community and state will remember him, idolize him and reward him for staying home. The NFL doesn't always work out. Woodward stands about a 75%-90% chance of being right back here in NJ in about five years. The doors that will open for him here if he stayed at home will not be open to him as a former Ohio Sate player. No one will know who he is.
But as a number one player who stays home? That's a whole career here. You can't really have a career in Columbus, unless you work retail.
I don't care how good you think the Ohio State experience is compared to Rutgers. Any kid who leaves this area, with the economy we have here, gives up way, way more than they'll ever get by playing in a bigger stadium six or seven times a year. Long way to go to signing day and know our coaches, players and recruits will hammer away at him, now that Urban has set the rules. He'll never play for Ohio State, mark my words.
