Was at Tumbleweed in Englewood over the weekend. Was greeted by two very good looking blondes so it started good.
My food was excellent...a huge steak. Wife got steak tips with sauteed onions and mushrooms. The onions looked very stringy and kinda gross. Wife wasnt touching them so I asked and she said they tasted pretty bad. I thought she was probably overexagerating so I took some.
Man, they were the most disgusting thing I ever tasted. I think the cook fried up the ends of a dirty mop or something. They were rank. Waitress comes by to ask and I am pretty polite in asking if they do something diff/special with the onions and she said just normal sauteed. I then told her that they tasted pretty badly. She was nice about it, agrees they look bad and even looked at the lady next table with the same thing TOld her usually I dont say anything if I dont like the food but did this time because they may be rotten or whatnot so the kitchen knows.
Manager comes over and goes 'whoa, those things look terrible. I am gonna talk to the kitched becuase those dont even look normal.
IF you are the manager what do you do? Do ya take somethin off the bill? Do nothing? Just write sorry for the bad onions? Just curious.

New food or free meal. But I'm not in the restaurant biz, so what do I know.

I would have the steak re-made and I would place that order(as well as the ruined order) on the house.
This is the only way to ensure stories like this don't get posted on the internet and then go viral. This is different than the allegedly racist Papa Johns remark because that is irrelevant and the result of an indoctrinated over sensitive chinese lady who needs to grow up. The case of bad food can ruin the reputation of an established restaurant, unlike Papa Johns where I bet they don't see any dip in sales from the remark because most rational intelligent people understand that its a rogue incident and doesn't represent the true nature of the company.
I'm guessing since you posted this and framed the question the way you did, the manager handled it poorly and did not comp you for their error. I also hate your wife.
Good day.

You replace the meal and write off the entire bill.thavoice;1054541 wrote:Was at Tumbleweed in Englewood over the weekend. Was greeted by two very good looking blondes so it started good.

Should have at least got your wife's meal for free, if not the entire check. (I haven't been in the restaurant business for about 15-16 years but I still know what good service is.)

I guess if I was a jerk then I woulda got something taken off the bill. She had a piece or two of her steak left and ya could taste the residue of the nasty onions on them a little bit as well. It wasnt like I was being picky at all.sleeper;1054549 wrote:I would have the steak re-made and I would place that order(as well as the ruined order) on the house.

You shouldn't have to be a jerk in order to get the meal comped. The manager handled it poorly.thavoice;1054555 wrote:I guess if I was a jerk then I woulda got something taken off the bill. Were you allowed to have a beer with your dinner?

New steak and the whole food bill comped.
I've had bills comped for much less without even saying anything (food taking too long, etc)

Funny you say that. We got done with about 6 or so minutes left in the SF/NO game. We sat around waiting, and waiting, for the waitress to come by aainst because we wanted to get some drinks while the game ended. We even tracked her down when she went by and said she would be right back yet never came back. We were gonna have a few while watching the end of the game.said_aouita;1054593 wrote:Were you allowed to have a beer with your dinner?
This wouldnt have happened tho if my steelers were playing. If it is the steelers playing and I wanna watch then it is "So, football is more important than me" but if it is any other team...it is OK.
bad
Yeah...I kinda thought that with the waitress and manger both seeing how nasty they looked....they had a green/bad gray tint color and looked awful that they woulda took maybe half off her meal or whatever. Wasnt looking for much, at least do something though ya know like maybe the appetizer free.

Her meal free and offer free desert....or a $10 gift card for returned visit plus her meal free....with new meal of course.
Least possible....new meal or bill adjusted for price of meal

The way my store would handle it would be replacing the food with food that actually looks and tastes right. (If a manager comes out and visibly can SEE that something is wrong...the restaurant DID wrong)
Now comes the tricky part, a lot of people out there will complain just to get a discount or a free meal. Scam artists like this are more abundant that you would EVER think. It is the front of the house or "floor" managers job to determine if this is a scam, the truth, or just utter guest stupidity. (Examples of guest stupidity would be ordering a Medium Rare steak and complaining because there is blood on your plate)
In THIS case, if the manager can SEE something is wrong, that meal would completely be taken off of the bill and replaced with a meal that was suitable.
Also free desserts and a free drink can be used in place of a meal replacement.

Yeah, that is what I thought. wasnt trying to scam at all. As I said, I never complain to the waitress even if it was less than desireable but this was awful and then when the manager even could notice it........I guess I was expecting something off!Go4alOngbOmB;1054868 wrote:The way my store would handle it would be replacing the food with food that actually looks and tastes right. and I forgot to add this.
When the manager asks how the rest of the meal was we stated it was excellent, and the wife says except for this cornbread that is as hard as a rock. The piece of cornbread was so hard you couldnt even cut it in half with a knife! We werent even gonna mention that because, well, its just cornbread but since he asked....

Replace the meal, allow them to keep the first meal if they want (ie, the steak was still good or something) and that portion of bill is free.
I went to outback, ordered the 18 ounce strip and got the 12 ounce. Told the waitress, manager came and said he would have the 18 ounce made up for me asap and the packaged the 12 ounce to go. Got 2 free meals. When something goes wrong, you should make sure the customer gets what is right and then some to ensure future business.

I have a friend who is NEVER fucking happy when we go out to eat. I don't think she is a scam artist but she is damn hard to satisfy and I would say we get free food 1/3 of the time we go out to eat. (I would say she complains 9/10 times we have gone out.) It's embarrassing and I don't go out with her often anymore.Go4alOngbOmB;1054868 wrote:Now comes the tricky part, a lot of people out there will complain just to get a discount or a free meal. I'm all for saying something when the meal is bad, but to complain just because everything isn't PERFECT is a bit bitchy.FatHobbit;1054884 wrote:I have a friend who is NEVER fucking happy when we go out to eat. Ya see, something like that or heck even a free appetizer would have sufficed and want me to go back some time. Shoulda pursued it a bit becuase I had the last piece or two of her steak and you could taste a small bit of the grossness that the onions provided.Laley23;1054880 wrote:Replace the meal, allow them to keep the first meal if they want (ie, the steak was still good or something) and that portion of bill is free.

I went to the link that was provided by someone and filled it out.
