I'm just messing with you guys. I know the thought of Tannehill at #4 is about as appealing as #12 at QB for me to most people.

kind of warming to the idea of richardson at 4. while i'd love to trade down and then grab richardson, i don't believe there is a team out there desperate enough for a wide receiver to get ahead of stl to take him

i think i could behind something like richardson at 4, hill at 22, adams at 37 (or slight trade up)

Holmgren is out of here in two+ years. What if they don't have a succession plan to pass the torch to Heckert? We continue to draft only, not make the playoffs and a new regime comes in AGAIN in two years and decides they want to run a 3-4 defense and blows it up once more?
I have heard talk about the Browns are grooming Shurmur for a front office position once Holmgren is ready to go........and this is probably what is going to happen, and then Lerner will pay Holmgren 6 mill a year to be an advisor to Heckert/Shurmur!

this made me lol. colt mccoy isn't leading any team to the superbowl. and if you really think RG3 is a backup qb i want what you are smoking. who gives a shit what you give up for a franchise qb. if he leads you to the superbowl and afc north championships year in and year out who gives a fuck about those 3 first round draft picks.

If the Browns are gonna make an insane reach for a QB at #4, I'd rather have Weeden than Tannehill. I honestly don't understand why anyone thinks he's going to be good. He's like a horrid combination of Blaine Gabbart and Derek Anderson.

I heard someone suggest a trade for Gabbert if Tebow were to be traded to JAX. I was looking for the nearest meat slicer to stick my head in. Couldn't find one...:D

Agree on the 3 to 4 win season comment. Could be looking at another rebuild.

I could see a blackout this year. I could see things reaching Mangini start-like proportions.

What surprises me so much about Heckert thus far and his "build through the draft" strategy is the continued ignoring of the QB position.

You would have thought in Philly he would have seen how important McNabb was to what they were doing, and how important the QB is.

When you have an elite QB, everyone you draft typically plays better as their level of play is naturally lifted.

The longer this goes on with no answer at the position you begin to wonder if he ever really learned anything from Andy Reid.

Beyond that, there needs to start to be some big hits beyond round 2. When does he find his Josh Cribbs as an undrafted free agent, or find the impact player in the later rounds everyone missed?

If you are going to build exclusively through the draft, it is imperative you hit on more than 2-3 guys a year.

Rookies getting playing time (like last year) doesn't necessarily equal having drafted guys that are part of the solution. I think that is being lost on the regime right now.

As far as the QB goes, I think they thought RG3 was a lock and had no backup plan. I may be wrong on that but it's sure as Hell what it looks like.

I think they just reasoned that unless they could get RG3 they would just stay with McCoy. Nobody save maybe Manning, would be a sure fire upgrade that would be worth spending big bucks....especially with so many holes to fill.

What I don't understand is the running back situation. Do they really expect Hardesty to carry the load?

This has me thinking Richardson with a high pick or maybe Doug Martin at 22.

what surprises me about you is how dense you are. They made a play for RG3 and lost out. They aren't unaware of the qb need.

Keep QQing though iggy

they should take Richardson, then take a WR with the 22nd. They actually would be wise to trade down to 6 or 8 or whatever, take Richardson there, aquire an extra pick or two, and take a WR with the 22nd. But, they're the Browns. So they'll prolly stay at 4 and take Tannehill.

I actually like that. If they can't upgrade the QB this year (I've always been in favor of giving McCoy another year if they dont sign a FA), at least build the offense around him for the future. If McCoy can't do anything with weapons, you at least have some pieces that may make coming to Cleveland a bit desirable for a FA QB.

And if he busts like Jabba the Hutt Russell, it sets the franchise back a decade. RG3 will be banthafodder within 3 years, book it.

I hope we don't take Richardson at 4. Trade back. More picks. Trade everything you can for Peyton Manning. Peyton + Browns = Championship

H&H are going to take the BPA at 4 ......if they trade down they will take BPA ,it will have nothing to do with need......I honestly think they want to trade down if they can so that they don't have to make a choice( they can't decide) if it truly is BPA it will be Clairborne, Blackmon.....just sayin

edit.....if Kahlil is there , they just may go that route......there was some talk about trading back with Dallas at 14 because they think they can get Decastro there...

^^^^^ actually heard also that the Browns were really reluctant to trade the # 22 pick hoping they could trade down with it....... trading down with #4 to Dallas to 14 trading up with 22 to get Richardson/Alabama or Decastro/Stanford......but that was a couple of weeks ago ,so who knows what they are thinking

The problem for the Browns isn't ignorance of the QB need on draft day, it's the unavailability of someone worth the pick.

Lets look at the last few drafts and QBs the Browns did not reach for (in 1st or 2nd round):

2009: Mark Sanchez (traded down), Josh Freeman
2010: Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen
2011: Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton

Excuse me, Iggy, but I fail to see a franchise QB in the bunch (jury is out on the 2011 guys but I don't see one outside Dalton). We made our play for a franchise QB this offseason and it wasn't accepted.

What have the Browns been doing instead? How about filling important holes on our team. Alex Mack, Joe Haden, Phil Taylor, Jabaal Sheard, Greg Little, and TJ Ward are guys we took instead of the players I listed above and figure to be keys to our future success.

Excuse me for not caring that the FO hasn't put more faith into overhyped QBs. You can't call McCoy an overhyped QB if we drafted him in the 3rd round.
