Not to mention it snuffs out the hope on RGIII that has the fan base so excited right now.

That would be the most deflating introductory press conference in free agent history as it would be slamming the door on RGIII.

If Holmgren was hesitant at all on RGIII, Flynn might be a good excuse for him not to do it (in his mind at least). He is a system guy and it would thrill the coaching staff. They love that kind of stuff where everyone is speaking the same language.

It would be a tough sell to the fan base, but as I have come to see that really isn't important to them.

Griffin would be half the price but there would obviously be the draft picks to consider.

RG3 would definitely create more of a "buzz" than Flynn.

I would love to see them get guys like Michael Bush, Pierre Garcon or Laurent Robinson, Mario Williams, Carl Nicks and Cortland Finnegan. Would help out this team a boat load! That could instantly put them to be competetive in the North. If they can get some of those guys and go ahead and take RGIII I'd be pleased. Heck, I would take a shot on Mike Wallace.

I have seen some stupid shit since the Browns have been back, but I think H&H will be smart and not pay that kind of money to him.

Now watch me eat my words.

Yeah, I think its ridiculous. I sure as hell don't want the Browns spending that much on him.

Edit: I know what you are trying to refer to now. I never said he wasn't going to get that money, I just said he doesn't deserve it, and I sure as hell wouldn't pay him that money. I know you are getting ready to spin what I said though.

Well they're not going to get ALL of them lol probably won't get more than 1 of them, if that.

Oh and Mike Wallace isn't happening, it would cost their #4 draft pick.

I'd heard there would be interest but they'd also have a max "budget" that they wouldn't exceed where they'd drop out of the bidding.

Sounds like their "interest" is just smoke and mirrors.

Hope you're right. It's no secret my dislike for McCoy but I just don't see this guy (Flynn) being an upgrade. Same weak arm but may be a little better at getting the ball into windows and hitting receivers in stride but I think his ceiling is pretty low. May get the team to a respectable 9-7 season but I can't see much more.

This surprises me but it sounds like the Browns are going to take a good look at Colston from the Saints. Another player of interest is Seattle LB David Hawthorne. Sounds like Vincent Jackson will NOT be in play as they are expecting him to want "Larry Fitzgerald money" plus he has character concerns. Have also heard Richard Marshall's (cornerback) name linked to Cleveland.

Bio on Hawthorne....looks like a tackling machine...

Sure is a lot of tackles, but are they productive tackles or are they Andra Davis type tackles? I am sure COA will get excited regardless :D.

He's a new name at OLB for me so not all that familiar with his game. I figured they might try to key in on Wesley Woodyard (Broncos) in that he fits their "M.O." (young guy 26-27 coming off his rookie contract) but it looks like Hawthorne does too.

This is from his Scouts, Inc. profile on that ESPN link (grade 71)

Hawthorne has position versatility in that he can line up at the SAM position as well as the middle linebacker spot. He is more suited to the middle as he is somewhat limited in his lateral range as well as his pass coverage skills, but he is a tackling machine when it comes to defending the run between the tackles. He is a heavy hitter who punishes ball carriers with his ability to roll his hips as he unloads on the tackle. Allthough he is on the short side, he has long arms and does a good job of using his hands to defeat and shed blockers. He has a very good nose for the ball and takes good angles to get to the play. He lacks the kind of speed needed to match up with most tight ends in man coverage, and although he can fill the short lanes on underneath routes, he is not real effective going to the ball in zone coverage.

FWIW they grade D'Qwell to a 73

Sounds like the type of guy the Browns could use. Although I saw improvement in the defense this year, their run defense was just flat out atroticious at times.

Those comments on his pass coverage are concerning in that they already have slow linebackers (see Fujita) who can't cover TE's.

How many LBs in the league can actually cover TE's? Seems like TE's all over the league this past season ran wild on defenses.

Watching Fujita cover that TE on the titans I think for 80+ yds was a joke. Might as well have not even been on the field.

If Heckert reaches for Richardson at 4, 1) he's desparate and 2) he's lost whatever touch he had. Richardson will still be there at 8-12.
