This just proves that the Catholic church is ok with gay guys who molest little boys. When a priest molest a little boy, they try and cover it up and hurry up and move the priest to another church so he can continue to rape young boys. This priest in the story is accused of having porn on his computer, images of preteen girls and they want to defrock him. I think he should be charged by the police for his crimes, but my gripe is if it was images of young boys they would not want him defrocked, they would just cover it up, because raping young boys is ok with the church.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/30/worcester-diocese-seeks-t_0_n_1176212.html

WORCESTER, Mass. — A Roman Catholic diocese in Massachusetts has asked the Vatican to defrock a priest who is facing charges of possessing child pornography and stealing from his parish.
A spokesman for the Diocese of Worcester (WUH'-stur) tells The Telegram & Gazette () that Bishop Robert McManus has asked the pope to defrock the Rev. Lowe Dongor. http://bit.ly/rqPrfv
Diocese officials say they are seeking to laicize Dongor in the wake of a "clarification" last spring by Vatican officials that child pornography possession is grounds for removal from the priesthood.
Authorities say images of preteen girls were found on Dongor's computer. He also is accused of stealing $40 to $60 from St. Joseph parish in Fitchburg on several occasions. He was released after pleading not guilty and suspended from ministry. It is believed he fled to his native Philippines.

I don't follow your reasoning. They are removing (i.e. firing) a priest for actions and this shows support or cover up?

Unless the images were porn I don't think there's anything illegal about it. It's creepy as shit but you can't really charge everyone with pictures of young people on their computers. (Insert "you're just saying that because you're a pedo" joke). Fire the hell out of the guy. If he's doing something illegal he should certainly be charged.

This goes beyond religion.

Anytime you have someone in power, a head of an organization/group/etc., in a position where he/she oversees others, there are these same problems. Look at the primary and secondary schools, how many problems are there with teachers and kids (doesn't matter the gender of either)? What about the problems that have taken place with sports teams/organizations (Penn State, Syracuse, US Swimming and Diving, and AAU -- some of the most recent). Look at the politicians...although, it really hasn't been with children. Some of the biggest headlines about Hollywood these days are the amount of pedophiles that are directing/casting agents -- i.e., using the "casting couch" on little boys/girls.

Should we abolish all of those? It's society these days...unfortunately. It's disgusting. It's ridiculous. It's happening all over the place, it isn't limited to the Catholics or any specific religion. It's not an American-only thing. It can be a family member, friend, boss, coworker, spouse, or any average Joe...it sucks.

It isn't society "these days". Shit like this happened long before now. Just no one was able to find out or cared.

And it isn't just the Catholic Church either, the rate of abuse is about the same throughout all the religions and it's all disgusting. I'm too lazy to link the study tonight though.

That's the truth. We just have the media now, unlike before.

The media is a factor and we're increasingly coming to the realization that just because someone of influence, honor, power, etc in our community says something it doesn't make it right or okay. That wasn't always the case.

The invention of all these different means of technology has made it easier for the whackjobs to do this stuff. Internet, mail order stuff, cell phones..etc etc etc. All of this stuff helps enable people do stuff like this. I think 50 years ago there were still creepers out there, but because of the difficulty of doing such things helped curb the actual actions of those phucktards.

I think all of us can admit that the invention of the web, cell phones, mail order stuff that we all have done things that we normall wouldnt have done without these medians. I am not talking about illegal stuff per say, but stuff we say and do. Many would never walk into a video store and buy porn, but with it so easily accessible and the aninomity of it...sure, why not. Email and texting....I think we all can admit that we have said and acted things to women that we never would have done if it werent for those things.
"Normal" people like us just maybe send lewd text/pics, or view some porn, or say suggestive stuff to women via web. text and such that we would never do before.

The actual whackjobs who have those impulses also have used these means to actually act on their impulses.

There is no way to really guage or quantify it.....but I bet if there was no internet and things of the such that there would be alot LESS of those who actually act on their sick impulses.

All the church needs to do is to allow their preists to be married....end of the issue.
I think it would be a good idea for priests to marry, but it is no cure all. it is awfully easy to find examples of child molestation cases against non-celibate clergy.

I think that letting Priests marry would do alot to increase those who are interested in becoming priests. I really do think that the whole no sex and marriage thing scares off alot of people and opens the door for those sicko's.

I think what you wrote is true, but allowing clergy to marry is far from a perfect filter for removing sickos. Check that with Mr. and Mrs. Sandusky.

One of the best books I have ever read was his biography and one of my favorite quotes:

“The question of why evil exists is not a theological question, for it assumes that it is possible to go behind the existence forced upon us as sinners. If we could answer it then we would not be sinners. We could make something else responsible...The theological question does not arise about the origin of evil but about the real overcoming of evil on the Cross; it ask for the forgiveness of guilt, for the reconciliation of the fallen world ”
