The way I look at it (lack of support for the Bengals) is this. The Bengal fans will come on here and crow from the rooftops, telling us that it in someway is a reflection on poor ownership, take pride in what they feel is their "civic" duty by not showing up. Taking their ball and going home. But what I see as the reality of it is simply an excuse for apathy given the history of a city that has remained largely apathetic in my lifetime.

cue the tell me I'm wrong sob stories...

Actually no, people try and get a rise out of us, and most of us tell you guys that there is no excuse at all. The support the team gets in Cincy is a joke. Let's keep beating this dead horse though

I'm sick of the whole, "We've been so bad for awhile that it'll take time to get people in the stadium" excuse. They went to the playoffs in 2005 and 2009, much better than the Lions who haven't been there since 1999. Lets face it Cincy just isn't a great sports town

Reds have a pretty strong following. Bengals haven't been embraced recently. Again there is NO EXCUSE for the fanbase. Few Bengal fans on this board are making those excuses. We know that the support has been brutal. It's been admitted but people continue to ignore it and make up their own opinions on what Bengal fans are 'saying'

Sold out every game and not only that but the atmosphere there has been electric. After the 4-0 start they sold out the last 7 home games remaining. People in the Motor City are talking about the Lions more than the Red Wings in all honesty

And yeah I'll give you that, GABP does get solid draws consistently. Cincinnati is a lot like St. Louis though, a big time baseball town

That's because (at least in my case) I frequent an OSU board where there are about a dozen or more so-called Bengals fans and ALL of them say they won't go to another game until Mike Brown is gone. It's the lamest, dumbest excuse I've heard from fans of a historically awful franchise who are finally having a decent year.

As for the Steelers...you couldn't find a Steelers fan anywhere in Ohio before the 1970s. When they started winning, all of a sudden there were all these "life long" Steelers fan everywhere. Without a doubt the most bandwagon dominated fan base in sports -- even including the skankees and cowgirls.

I don't see many Bengal fans saying that. I think in most cases when it is said, people are just trying to explain the tepid support. I don't even try to explain it. It's a cop out and a terrible excuse.

With that being said, it is the same exact thing Indian fans said about Dolan. The excuse isn't exclusive to Cincy

I wouldn't go as far as comparing them to St Louis fans, but definitely more a baseball town than a football town.

Why are ticket buyers expected to "support" the team? Shouldn't the team be giving the ticket buyers a reason to attend?

Yeah, this was by far the root cause of me hating any all things stiller, watching all the mindless bandwagon jumping during this time period was nauseating to put it mildly. If you weren't around to witness it you have no idea, don't think I've ever seen anything like it since.

Just wanted to clarify that after what you just said. Most youngstown squealer bandwagon fans use proximity to pittsburgh as an excuse. Nice to know it's just another excuse.

Always lived in Ohio, always north of Ytown, but yeah that was always a common one, like somehow they were more likely to attend Steeler games than Browns games, lol...no the band wagon stopped out front and you hopped on.

The team hasn't been getting the full support of the town over the past few seasons. There really hasn't been a change in support one way or the other. Most of the city is apathetic towards the team. Has nothing to do with 'fans thinking they aren't a legit playoff team.' I would say you are giving people too much credit.

Few look at strength of schedule/ opponents. Only the diehards do that. Most look at the record and say 'shoot they have 9 wins, they must be ok' or 'wow they suck, they have 4 wins'

Lol, WTF are talking about Con? Do you follow sports. Cincy has a chance, in week 17, to make the playoffs. Do you need the #1 seed locked up to give the fans a reason attend a game?
