I'm not sold on him. I think he was overhyped. He built Buffalo into an average MAC program. It's not like they tore up the league.

I think the job Al Golden has done at Temple has been much more impressive personally.

Gill was under .500 at Buffalo, and really had a fluke year last year.

Good, sure. Good enough to go to Kansas right now? Not really.

I don't think people realize how bad Buffalo was before Gill got there. He's won as many games in the last 2 seasons than they did 9 combined seasons preceding him.

From his wikipedia page, kind of funny:

University of Kansas

Gill is expected to be announced as the head coach at the University of Kansas, according to sources, where his daughter Jordan, is a sophomore. Jordan is in the school of journalism and was a Rock Chalk dancer her freshman year. Nobody in the state of Kansas wants Turner Gill as the head coach.

I doubt it stays up long before it's edited.

He's going to struggle to recruit with all of those schools around him in the Big XII....

not sure this is the best fit

He's a Nebraska guy who took a terrible Buffalo program and made it half way decent. He's going to Kansas whose greatest season in all of their years of football was exactly two years ago. I think he'll be fine.

I thought he was due for a new challenge last year, however this season was disappointing. You almost fear that he was a one hit wonder.

I agree that Al Golden has been more impressive

I suppose Kansas isn't really going to be at the top of everybody's list. So, I can't think of anyone that would really be better.

I don't understand what Gill ever did to make his name a "hot" name, though for him, Kansas is a good step. I realize he "built" Buffalo into a team that won a weak conference with 6 losses because the divisional setup gave them a chance for a fluke win. I also realize that 12-24 outside of that season is better than what Buffalo was accustomed to, but is Kansas looking for a program builder?

Golden has almost the exact same record as Gill, except his big year was this year and he didn't win a conference title (which Gill did).

Not fat.... I think he has done the right thing and surrounded himself with some quality coordinators that have head coaching experience. Torbush the DC was the same at an improved Mississippi State but previous to that he was the head coach at UNC. Chuck Long is the OC and used be Oklahoma's offensive coordinator before head coach at San Diego St.

Honestly who would want this job? It's not like Kansas is a hotbed of talent for HS football and the good recruits are heading out of state. You are competing against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Nebraska for recruits. And it's a basketball school.

I'm surprised that Kansas was able to get a coach that I had actually heard of previously.
