Sorry, but no. He won't read the emails, guaranteed. I will be drafting a letter to President Gee stating I will withhold any and all contributions to The Ohio State University as long as Gene Smith is our AD.

There's no chance I get rid of Gee. He's an excellent ambassador for the University.

Actually I donate about $5000 per year to OSU. It's not a huge amount, but its not insignificant either. In addition, as my wages increase over time, I will up that amount.

The program I coach for will take your donation! We will put it to use where the student-athletes actually reap the benefits of generous donors like yourself...something that large institutions don't do.

Go Irish? By this of course you mean "Go 8-4 team with no chance for winning a BCS bowl game ever!". Nice.

It was worth a shot. :D

I focus a lot on alumni giving/generous donors in building an athletic program/team...especially at smaller institutions. If you ever want to reconsider...you know where to find me.

I was supportive of Smith up until this point in time. Now I think he needs to resign ASAP. This situation was totally mishandled from the beginning to this point.

So you supported him the whole time even though it was mishandled from the start?

Gee says Smith's job is safe. Also said it wasn't handled well at the start, but he has "no regrets regarding how we handled it."

As much as I like Gee on balance (like Tressel) he is wrong on this. His first duty should be to the University he serves, and he did a poor job in defending it from malicious prosecution. He should be spitting mad at the NCAA, given OSU's cooperation and he personally should be filing a formal complaint and appeal.

Sheep. Baaaaah, baaaah! That's what I hear coming out of his( and Smith's) mouth. For god's sake, take off your fricking bowtie and act like a man.
Unless somebody has the balls to challenge the NCAA on this kind of stuff, we will continue to get this uneven, heavy handed enforcement of the NCAA's bloated 400 page rulebook.....Dirty programs will skate, and the ones who try to comply will get f**ked.

I think the reason that they are not going to appeal and just move on from here is that there is more to the story that has not yet come out. It went higher than Tressel, more heads would roll and more embarrasment for the University (as well as Gee and Smith) if they keep picking at the scab.

IMO, they (Gee and, more so Smith) are 'happy' with the penalty as it sits as it could be alot worse if 'the rest of the story' was told.

Ohio St.'s Gene Smith's continued employment is a modern miracle. Ignorance, incompetence and arrogance are all grounds for dismissal here.
