That's pretty much where I was going with my comment. I think it would be a lot more like to result in early draft entrants than future recruit decommits.

But, luckily (or unfortunately) we really don't have many underclassmen who will have the draft stock to be leaving early.

Mulva;1022224 wrote:I don't get why a 1 year bowl ban would have much of an impact on future recruits.

It's too bad for the guys who are going to be seniors next year.
It's because Meyer misses all those extra practices under HIS system and with young players. It's a time when the lightbulb goes on for a lot of young players who have struggled to adapt to college ball. It's one less (likely) good game your younger players get experience playing in, under pressure; the type of experience that helps win championships in future years.

It's a big deal.

Too bad the NCAA couldn't have been honest with OSU and told them a ban was coming, so they could go ahead and take it this year. This delay and letting OSU think it wasn't going to get a ban was all deliberate, I'm sure. They were running scared from the media hype and felt they had to do more than they've ever done against any other school in the past facing the same allegations.

Shameful.

Interesting seeing all the people on the Infractions committee:
  • Dr. Dennis Thomas, the commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and chair of the Committee on Infractions.
  • Britton Banowsky, commissioner of Conference USA
  • John S. Black, attorney
  • Melissa (Missy) Conboy, deputy director of athletics at the University of Notre Dame
  • Roscoe Howard, Jr., attorney
  • Eleanor Myers, faculty athletics representative and law professor at Temple University
  • James O’Fallon, law professor and faculty athletics representative for University of Oregon
  • Gregory Sankey, associate commissioner of the Southeastern Conference

LOL, you say that like its a fact. It would have made sense to punish the players that, you know, actually committed the violations. There is very little value in this bowl game as a 6-6 team. Failure to selfimpose was a gross mistake.

I looked at that list and noticed Notre Dame and the SEC. Yeah, these people really represent the highest ethics of college football.

yes, because in the B1G you only have one or two tough games a year. The rest of your schedule is vs the B1G scrub teams.

All that's left for Gene Smith is to announce that he's confident his job as AD is safe and then to be fired by Ohio State 10 minutes later

If incompetence were made of strawberries, Gene Smith would be drinking a lot of smoothies right about now.

The sec, besides the top 3 teams, were worse than the big ten this year. SOS is just an idiot, and his florida fans are the biggest bangwagoners. Loved seeing that empty stadium towards the end of the year. Sign of things to come for florida. FLORIDA FANS: hanging on the jock of Tebow for as long as they can.

Actually, the way I understand it, you don't have to go to a bowl to get these extra practices, you just have to be bowl eligible. As long as they win 6 or more games next season, they should still get the extra 15 practices.

This is the only thing I am really pissed about. The NCAA could have come out with the ban earlier, so OSU could have taken the ban THIS year. I truly believe, after the hiring of Meyer, they deliverately waited to this point. Pretty pitiful. Other than that, OSU got what they deserved. The situation was handled poorly from the beginning. OSU trusted that Gene Smith knew what he was talking about. And now this. Smith needs to step down and I'd be suprised if that doesn't happen within a week or sooner. I think the powers that be (trustees) will call for his head after this.

But if they're ruled ineligible by the NCAA, wouldn't that mean that they wouldn't get the 15 practices? Because no matter how many they win, they're not eligible. I don't know the rules, but that's how it'd seem to me.

For those who wish to tell the NCAA president what they think, here is Dr. Mark A. Emmert email.

No doubt it will hurt, but I think it is somewhat overstated how important those couple weeks of extra practices are in the long run.

Same number of practices as spring ball I think. 15 extra practices is huge, especially with what will still be a young team.

No doubt it helps a lot, but I still think it is not AS big as some make it out to be in the long run.

NCAA needs an A bomb dropped on them.

Gene Smith needs to be fired immediately then dropped out of an airplane to a remote island with no chute. They can strap Gee to him via his bow tie immediately before the package drop.
