I used to feel this way, too, but to coach 35 years and have no plan for a successor...I don't think that's having the program's best interests at heart. He should've already publicly endorsed Besancon for the job. He's one of his assistants, and the best bet to keep his other long time assistants employed until they're ready to go. I feel worse for those guys than I do Schrock, because they don't control their futures. A new coach can very easily come in and dump them.

but to coach 35 years and have no plan for a successor-------- That's why you have an AD and Supt!

I do think Schrock wanted Brent to be his successor... BUT if you haven't already figured it out he has absolutley NO SAY in who the next coach will be. Actually if he told them he wanted Besancon it would most likely hurt Brent's chances. It is very evident that the football program needs to go a different direction (so we are told) and someone on his staff would not be the answer if the program needs to go a different direction. (still not sure what the new direction is suppose to be)

If Schrock made the decision as soon as the season was over, he would of chose to coach next year. The season they had this year was fantastic and if he had no time to think about retirement he would be coaching because he LOVES the players that are coming back next year. BELIEVE ME that last thing he wants is for the football program (that he has spent his life building) to fail. He was not waiting to decide till January to hurt the program.

I do think you will see him on the sidelines some place next year. Whether it be Pee wee, Junior High, High School or College;) HE HAS A PASSION FOR THE GAME and is not ready to be completely done!!

I keep telling people that unless they have been or currently are part of the program that they wouldn't understand the situation. Whether Coach Schrock announced it in November and January he was leaving the board with a very easy decision to make. I think Brent is one of a very few coaches in the county that'd turn Wooster down to take over for Schrock. It's unfortunate the Board, Superintendent, Principal, AD (whoever is responsible for this mess) had to make an easy transition into a mess.

I hope we do see him on the sidelines somewhere next year. Like I have said before, I only went to Smithville for high school and didn't want to go there. My loyalty is with your dad not the school. If he's at another high school I'll have those colors. If it's pee wee or college I'll be wearing those colors........unless it's Michigan but I doubt he'd go that route being an OSU alumnus.

^^ Agreed Hedi, when Brent was an assistant the last time before he left to be the head coach at New London and Rittman, Schrock went to the higher ups at the school to endorse Brent as the successor to him when he retired. The school told Schrock that when he retires they want to open it up to anybody. Another words they feel like they will be able to land a big name to come in and coach Smithville. IMO Brent would have been the right choice, but know who knows what will happen. Have they started taking applications for a new coach yet??

It's probably not going anywhere as it takes money and lawyers to get this into the court systems but maybe they'd start giving us answers if they saw a petition with a couple thousand signatures.
How is that petition going?

I thought the board was waiting to accept Coach Schrock's resignation until their next board meeting?

I got the posting in my e-mail this morning. I suppose you could call the HS and inquire if interested.

I don't know if it's posted to the public yet. I haven't seen it hanging on the walls of Sam's Pizza yet.

This is a link to the OHSAA job postings.....if it went public, it will be on this site.

Please notice: Smithville has the Girl's Soccer coach on there, but not football coach.

I didn't see it on that list. But the list seemed a little outdated.

Maybe they just gave the job to BB as a consolation prize for not getting the Wooster job.

Is BB even going for the job? I thought the plan was for Dennis to jump in over in the Emerald Village?

If Dennis leaves Rittman I retract my earlier comment about Chippewa getting a W against them this upcoming season.

I think that who will select as a coach must have fully experienced from the team management and should be the well selector and he should be the retired person from the team.

I was told that the principal will not be involved in the hiring process. Should be interesting to see how this gets handled.
