Gary Blackney was 19-36, including a 2-9 season the year before Meyer took over at BGSU. Meyer's and Hoke's careers leading up to their hires at major BCS conference programs are not even close. now, I think Hoke will do a nice job in Ann Arbor because he is a midwestern guy, has Ohio ties and understands the Michigan tradition. But, please don't try to compare Hoke to Meyer. Don't worry, hopefully Hoke can restore the program to the point where scUM can actually attract their #1 target like Les Miles or Jim Harbaugh.

We have to hear about how great Michigan is because of their history, and blah blah. Sorry, but Ohio State is the better program(honestly better than both ND and Michigan combined x 305 and its not even that close). Hoke will never win the B1G because he'll be fired in 5 years when he can't beat Ohio State and therefore can't win his own conference.

Hmmm. A quick wiki tells me Blackney was 60-50-2. But I don't care about that. I'm not dismissing what Meyer has done.Wooball;1016131 wrote:Gary Blackney was 19-36, including a 2-9 season the year before Meyer took over at BGSU. And OSU fans must have short memories. I could have sworn Tressel wasn't option #1 when he was hired. Hoke was #2 for Michigan (I do believe Harbaugh was 1, but Miles was never going to coach Michigan).

Sorry, I left out that he was 19-36 the last 5 years at BGSU. Blackney's first 2 years he went like 20-2 or something close to that.WebFire;1016256 wrote:Hmmm. A quick wiki tells me Blackney was 60-50-2. But I don't care about that. I'm not dismissing what Meyer has done.

Tressel wasn't option one in the eyes of fans but no one else was offered the job, that I'm aware of or remember. Mason was everyone's thought to replace Cooper.WebFire;1016256 wrote: And OSU fans must have short memories. I could have sworn Tressel wasn't option #1 when he was hired.

If you go by offers, then Hoke was Michigan's #1.ytownfootball;1016353 wrote:Tressel wasn't option one in the eyes of fans but no one else was offered the job, that I'm aware of or remember. Mason was everyone's thought to replace Cooper.

It helps when you only play 2 ranked teams all year and don't have to play your conference champion or Penn State.ksig489;1015658 wrote:And Michigan's no name coach is coaching in a BCS game after 1 year.

I was merely pointing out that a light schedule benefitted Michigan this season. Had Ohio State made a BCS bowl because of a light schedule I would say the same thing.

Here is something not so obvious. Michigan is the only bowl team to have played 10 bowl bound teams this season.

That's impressive I guess. I hate that .500 teams can go to bowl games. Even though I am a fan of Ohio State, they are not a bowl caliber team this season. Fortunately neither is their opponent in the bowl game.WebFire;1016673 wrote:Here is something not so obvious. Michigan is the only bowl team to have played 10 bowl bound teams this season.
The older I get, the less of a fan of college football in general I become. The powers that be have really ruined it. I remember the days that getting to a bowl game was an honor. Now it is pretty much a given. All about money though.

I'm still a big fan, it just isn't the same though. I still remember being a little kid and watching Ohio State win the Rose Bowl over Arizona State. That was just before the BCS. The BCS ruined everything. It still does not provide a true champion and just made money THAT much more important.WebFire;1016690 wrote:Still a big fan of CFB, but I can't disagree with the rest.

Not an OSU or UM fan. In fact I like watching all the big D1 programs with rich tradition so I always like watching OSU, especially. But for as much talk as OSU fans do, what has the team really done recently?
Despite getting a head start in the top 5, if not actually starting at #1,they've only managed one NC in my lifetime. They don't play an overly difficult schedule. The Big Ten is a decent conference these days it's nothing spectacular. To my recollection they've only really scheduled four powerhouse out of conference games in the past decade. Texas and USC. I think they only beat Texas once, right?
Then they played Miami. You kind of think powerhouse when you hear the name but it's not 1991 anymore. You'd just think with the ability to attract talent and being ranked so high to start every season the OSU would be able to win mor than one NC in the last thirty years. And if they can't do so their fans wouldn't talk like they'd actually done something lately.
I hope they win one soon bc they are one of the top 3 programs in terms of tradition and cfb is more fun when OSU is actually relevant and not just seemingly so. In recent yearsyou know even if OSU goes to a NC game they can't knock of the top SEC school who'll be there.

Im just saying, for having such a quality program OSU fans love to get in pissing contests w/ UM
and ND. Aren't Buckeye fans above doing that with two schools whose glory days have come and gone? What's the point?
Saying youre better than ND is like saying you could kick the shit out of a little blind kid. Idk. I'm sure every school has these fans but you can only talk so much before somebody is going to point out that your team isn't exactly tearing shit up lately.
Like I said OSU has every advantage and has been the preseason fav enough times in the past decade that when there fans talk shit somebodys gonna say shut up, your team is amongst the has been's too.
Ohio State may be a little better off than ND or UM but it's approaching 10 years since a NC for OSU. The talk is Getting to be empty words now.
