Aldo is an amazing striker and has great BJJ. My opinion is that he is the best all around fighter in MMA. Better than Jones, Silva, and GSP. He is just not as well known because he fights at 145.

So what options do you give Florian?

Florian is not as quick as Aldo but Florian has very good technical striking (Muay Thai). He can handle his own on his feet but eventually would get beat on his feet against Aldo.

Florians wrestling is good. Not as good as a college level wrestler but it is better than anyone he fights that was not a wrestler. If Florian has a chance I see him using his striking to set up a takedown use his razor elbows to soften up Aldo and use it to set up a submission.

Aldo has great BJJ but Florians is pretty amazing as well.

Florian is a bigger fighter so he will have to try to use his size to wear Aldo down and pull this off in round 4.

However as much as I like Florian Aldo should beat him easily.

Florian is an exceptionally hard worker who gets the absolute most out of his abilities. I have a ton of respect for him as a fighter. This is Florian’s third and final shot at a UFC title, so I hope we see the best Florian ever.

I agree with all of that. Florian has never been the best athlete or amazingly quick, etc but he is an extremely hard worker and is ALWAYS trying to improve.

He was on TUF and was strictly a BJJ guy, after the show he went to Thailand and studied Muay Thai for quite a long time and now his striking is dang good. He got out wrestled by the bull that is Sherk he went and trained wrestling at a college. The man trains hard, is a likable guy, VERY knowledgable about the sport (can see that when he commentates and is on MMA Live on ESPN), and is a good technical fighter in all aspects of the game.

I just don't think he is "elite" like a champion today has to be. This isn't the UFC of 10 years ago when you can be good and win a title, you have to be top notch. Aldo is, and even as a Florian fan, I don't believe he is.

I will be rooting for Florian, but fully expect Aldo to win, Aldo is just that good.

I am watching fights on FB right now, but since my hotel (and no local bars) seem to have VS, does anyone have a good place online to watch the free VS fights tonight?

I do not believe FB will show the televised fights?

Man, what a nice night of ground fighting so far.

First the fight that was probably stopped early, that was some of the best grappling by both guys I've seen in the UFC in a long time. Some of those scrambles and transitions were NICE.

The transition from triangle to armbar is very common, but to transition from guillotine to armbar was amazing.

Then the heal hook on Michael Johnson, the way he pulled guard and didn't let him pull out then even pulled Johnson down where Johnson had mount, then transitioned to a heel hook...amazing BJJ. (I hope Johnson's knee is ok, heel hooks are nasty).

When I trained BJJ I had a standing rule with anyone in our gym, grab my leg, say heel hook, and I tap before you even start.

Completely agree, great night of fights and very technical, beautiful to watch. Every fight so far has been stopped.

I don't see that fight going any other way, but that was the SECOND early stoppage tonight. Both fights were about to be over, no doubt, but in both cases the ref jumped in too fast.

The other was the one where the ref stopped on an armbar because the guy grunted, but didn't tap.

Aside from the rear naked choke attempt, Cruz really has done nothing but take him down, improve position...land nothing and then theyre back standing. But I suppose thats all you need to do to win. Fight is quite entertaining when its on their feet, wish itd stay like that
