Good stuff, Aaron. I think Haas has the inside track, but Durbin is intriguing. I'll pass on the in house interviews..those could've been spent on quality outside candidates with better credentials.

I'm pulling for Nicholson and Hart because I like their "jeans!" Let the tradition continue!

The tradition includes Crocs with those jeans.

Would Nicholson bring his 78 year old line coach? These young kids could learn a thing from the leather helmet era.

I'm a little confused on Solis making this cut.

Solis would be a mistake.

Besancon taking a risk

Nicholson would seem not to be a change.

Durbin is intersting

Luke Durbin is my darkhorse and has me intrigued. Haas is probably the early favorite if one had to be picked at the moment. Solis and Besancon I'm not to sure about. I would throw Nicholson's name out the window as fast as I could...if he is hired it would be the equivalent to the Death Penalty for Wooster football.

Who does Durbin pull in as his OC? I like the Federal League experience as a defensive coach, but can he transition to both a head coach and keep an eye on his O?

Aaron Dorksen;1048748 wrote:The Wooster High School football coaching search has been narrowed to eight candidates from a pool of approximately 50 applicants, athletic director Andy Kellar said. The interview process started Wednesday.
All three internal candidates who applied will get interviewed. They are Mark Hart, Pat Meenan and Andy Nicholson, who have each assisted at various level of the Generals program, but have not been head varsity football coaches before.
The outside finalists are Brent Besancon, Luke Durbin, Doug Haas, Tim Seder and Chris Solis.
More on our DR Press Box blog http://www.woostersports.com/2012/01/11/wooster-high-narrows-coaching-search-to-eight/ and in Thurs. D.R.
Thats a nice list, but it sounds like Haas already has the job. Besancon wants that Smithville job now that Schrock has finally closed the tent on that circus and why would they hire from within???

I'm just hoping Wooster finds a way to screw this whole thing up like they have done in the past with their hiring choices:)

I wouldn't knock them until you know them. Each candidate has some strong quailifications.

For those Wooster people unfamiliar with Shelby, Solis turned around a very shady progam in his tenture and struck up some strong teams, including a youth football league. Strong work ethic and kids were disciplined. Not sure why his brother was mentioned, they are two totally different people.

Others look interesting, but perhaps Haas is being put on a higher pedestal than should be?? Just asking for input.

I mentioned Tim Seder's brother too, should I not have done that either? Just telling little about each candidate and connections to area and Solis bros. went to COW. Most people know brothers are not automatically the same person.
This is pretty wide open and will come down to who interviews best. The candidates come from a lot of different backgrounds ... Durbin intriguing w/ great family background and D-I experience; Besancon, Solis have turned around programs, been to playoffs a lot; Haas has coached playoff teams, doesn't always have best athletes; Seder the real darkhorse, we know he can kick but what's his coaching background like? Kinda surprised at least one of the local college assts. didn't get an interview, but Woo really appears to be doing its homework on this and Kellar is seemingly leaving no stone unturned. They contacted two successful area coaches who after mulling it over decided to stay put but good if you're a woo fan to know that kind of effort is being put in. I think Woo will get a pretty good coach when all is said and done.

Good list, but my skepticism that these guys can get a hire right based upon merit (versus nepotism) is high. They definitely should've interviewed the C.O.W. assistants for one major reason - that's a potential opportunity for Wooster kids in the future. Don't burn bridges or alienate recruiters. If nothing else you're giving those guys interview experience. Interviewing the three in-house guys is a total waste of time, because none will likely even be retained as assistants or lower level coaches.

Huge career error on Harbour's part, too, in my opinion. If he's happy where he's at, more power to him. His worth will never be higher than it is right now. I guess if he's not smart enough to figure that out, glad to see him off the list.

Wow! That pic says a lot about the pride of the Wooster program. Looks like a few guys ready for some adult Pepsi’s after the tractor pulls are over!

Harbour can't do the job on his own. Like I've mentioned in the past he doesn't call the defense or the offense. Both of the coordinators are teachers at the school and I would highly doubt they would both leave. Indorf lives in the district. His wife teaches at Norwayne and is the head volleyball coach. He already tried coaching at the COW and came back to Norwayne. Vinnie Sette is a great coach and just got hired in there a year ago. Sette and Lachance both coach in the basketball program as well. I dont think Harbour would leave without them and I dont see all of them leaving Norwayne. We'll find out after next season. Norwayne should be very good again and I think the talent starts to fall off a little after that.

I think Haas will get it although many people at Cloverleaf have not been impressed. He did a nice job at Rittman and Triway

I'm very intrigued with Durbin, but I don't see them going out of the box with a 27 or 28 year old. I fully expect the "safe" route, which would be Haas. Is he going to promise a state title? No. But I think he's obviously a step up from what's there now. His record isn't spectacular, but he's only ever coached reclamation projects. There's some real talent in Wooster right now. Might be interesting to see what he can do.

Haas has coached at 3 local teams, so his ability to run a program is not in doubt. Wasn't Wooster specifically looking for someone with head coaching experience? Unless Durbin completes "wows" in an interview....I don't see how they can hire anyone but Haas.

Wooster hopefully learned from Dalton's mistake in hiring Billker a few years ago...thought they were getting a young guy that would put down roots, but he bolted after a year. Durbin could do the same thing.

Haas is the safe bet, and would be an upgrade. It's not a "sexy" hire, but that's not the goal. Wooster is looking for stability, and I think he'd give that.

Are you a spy trying to send Wooster down a certain path? Just saying, normally a Red Rider wouldn't want Wooster to improve...:D

I have known RR1 for some time now, he is a fair guy. He wold be the last person I would suspect of trying to steer Wooster down the wrong path. However, there are others from the Jelly City Gang on here I could esily see trying to accomplish that feat.
