Four conferences, rather than six divisions. Top four teams from each conference will make the playoffs, with the first two rounds being only intraconference matchups:

New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Washington, Carolina
Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida, Tampa Bay

[LEFT]Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas, Winnipeg
Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, San Jose, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado

So we have to beat: Winnipeg, Minnesota, St. Louis, Nahville to get our playoff spot every year. Not sure it will change much for the ole jackets. Though playing detroit less will be nice.

So the "East teams" have to be best 4/7 whereas the "west teams" have to be best 4/8?

That seems unfair, but other than that I like it.

For comparison, here's how the playoff teams would've shaken out the past few years:

2010:
Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, NY Rangers
Boston, Montreal, Buffalo, Tampa Bay
Detroit, Chicago, Nashville, Dallas*
Vancouver, San Jose, Anaheim, Phoenix

2009:
Washington, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia
Buffalo, Ottawa, Boston, Montreal
Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, St. Louis*
San Jose, Phoenix, Vancouver, LA

2008:
Washington, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia
Boston, Montreal, Florida*, Buffalo*
Detroit, Chicago, St Louis, Columbus
San Jose, Vancouver, Calgary, Anaheim

*Notes team that did not actually make playoffs

I like it from a Bruins fan point of view. I think they could easily beat out Ottowa, Toronto and Florida each year. Possibly Montreal with they way the Habs are right now.

From what I can tell, they keep the teams in the traditional divisions except if they moved. I like it. They should rename them back: Adams, Norris, Patrick & Smythe.

Bettman and Fehr are going to be in a brawl here soon.

Hopefully one kills the other. Or they both suffer fatal wounds.

Bettman has been okay as of late but Fehr is just doing this to be a dick. Stupid that a cost cutting and re-invigorating thing would be shot down. BS
