of course there is always the POY versus the MVP argument. Both can have different definitions based on your criteria. In my opinion, the POY is whoeverI think is the best football player, regardless of position, team, etc. MVP to me is the player that is the most valuable to their team, in other words - the player that would be the most missed. I don't know if thats how you should think about it,but that's how I do. At this point, I have no idea who the POY would be, but I would put BAtes (SMI) and Moyer (DAL) as clear fron runners.

I would agree with Bates and Moyer as candidates for MVP (most valuable to their team), but no way would I consider them Player of the Year talks just yet. I'll need to see a LOT more production from them.1486wd;1262268 wrote:of course there is always the POY versus the MVP argument. Both can have different definitions based on your criteria. Sorry man. I don't buy it for one second. Maybe a 4.68 or 4.69 but no 4.6 flat.855pride;1262165 wrote:Look at Smithville track last year. Bates placed high on the podium at state along with shane and poorman (senior that didnt play football last year, WB DB). not everyone does that to who ever said everyone runs a 4.6 and if im not mistaken bates and douglass (graduated this past summer, now at ashland) went to a camp and ran with a laser. bates was a solid 4.6 runner LAST WINTER. and orrville should be running 4.3 with that new turfhaha wish i had the chance to play on that field. something special.
Seen a lot of players play in this area. Know a lot of coaches in this area... Did a little asking around today. The couple guys I talked to just chuckled and surprisingly even the Orrville guy said they only had two 4.5 players this year...
Double checked on Mason Minnich too. A laser timed 4.52 at a football camp. He is by far the fastest kid I've seen play. Crazy straight speed. Not the quickest laterally though. Whoever tried to chase him down in the smithville scrimmage on his big run last year got smoked. Looked even for about 5 yards then he pulled away on 60+ run.

It is so early in the season to even take a stab at POY or MVP. I would think that, the young man would have to come from a team with a winning record! and at this point, no one from Smithville or Dalton should be considered, this may change during the season, but for now the front runners would probably be from Norwayne, Northwestern or Hillsdale. On a side note, I am sure I could run a 8.5!!! (blinding speed!)

Enjoyed reading the POY/MVP posts, along with the timed speed posts. Couple quick thoughts.....
1.) Talking best O-lineman, HAVE to start with them boys from Norwayne. Take any 2 or 3 of them and put them on the bottom dwellers in the leauge, and they would have an above average offense. Talking D-line, I will throw out a couple of homer picks(for me). Bee and Zeno for Hillsdale are playing very well. Bee gets doubled a ton and Zeno has a nose for the ball, all be it he is a bit undersized.
2.) Bates would start on O for Norwayne, would only be behind Berger(sp?) at WR, Norwayne's QB is good so Bates would be at WR. No matter how thick your crestucky lenses are you should respect his skills.
On a different note, if Hillsdale doesn't get first downs along with their big plays this week, Loudonville will cow-butt them. I think Hillsdale's run defense will show up big, but if they are on the field the whole game it will be tough. If Hillsdale wins the first down battle on O they will be fine.

Continuing with best O-lineman and D-lineman in WCAL, I would probably have to say one of the best O-lineman in the league is RG Switzer for Hillsdale. Don't understand how you forgot about him since you are a Hillsdale fanwas_that_it;1263351 wrote:Enjoyed reading the POY/MVP posts, along with the timed speed posts. Couple quick thoughts.....

Bee has been one of the best D-lineman in the league so far. I only wish he could play an entire game without coming out because of leg cramps. Not to take anything away from Zeno (because he has been a solid DT), but he has definitely been benefiting from all the double teams on the other D-lineman. Bee, Switzer, and Okoye Hamilton (2011 Senior Spencer Hamilton's younger brother) have all been getting doubled a lot.
