Michigan doesn't do it like this.
This is what Michigan does...
9 Game Regular Season
Every school 6-3 (or better obviously) makes the playoffs. Once it is determined WHO is making the playoffs, the divisions are set. I don't know the specifics but Class A is for DI-DII Class B-III-IV Class C-V-VI Class D-VII-VIII
If needed, some schools move up/down a class if they are right on the edge. However, it mostly occurs within the class and just moves between the two divisions within the class.
This Year...
Publics and Privates spilt 4 and 4. Of the 16 finalists, 10 were public schools.
2010-Of the 16 finalists, 11 were public including 5 winning it all
2009-Same as 2010 11 finalist and 5 champions.
2008- Same
2007- 12 publics with 7 champions.
It seems pretty balanced or even in the publics favor in Michigan. It also seems to be the same few schools on both sides.
Maybe public boys in Ohio need to quit complaining so much. I used to complain like that as well, especially when my alma mater finally made it back to State in 2004. We had to beat 2 Catholic Schools on the way to loosing to Cleveland Benny in the finals. Our school made shirts that read "No Recruits, Just Farm Boys" and screamed about the injustice that was a small town having to play against a Catholic School from Cleveland. However, nobody had a problem when we beat a Catholic School from Dayton or Columbus.
What is boils down to is that you're going to find a reason to complain about anyone who beats you.
I just live over the state line in Michigan, so I know a lot about the greater Toledo area when it comes to sports. People complain and moan until they're blue in the face about Toledo Central Catholic recruiting people (in football especially). However, you don't hear too much about St. John's, St. Francis, Toledo Christian Academy, or Cardinal Stitch. Now, people complain and moan about Toledo Whitmer IR kids from all over the Toledo area. Why? Because Whitmer was/is starting to have their way with the TCL and now the TRAC.
"They're better than me, so they must be cheating!"
