I think it might have been site fail #justinpwn instead. Considering there apparently were a shitload of duplicates over a certain period of time.

The ultra-conservative powers-that-be at UA would see his hiring as an embarassment and black mark on the reputation of the University. Yes, he would be an instant fix for the football program, but this would be seen nationally as a desperation play and a cry for money (from wealthy alumni) and media attention by the University. Don't look at this situatution as a sports fan, look at it from the point of view of those who are trying to run an academic institution with high standards. They may not be so sure about a guy with a couple of black marks on his resume (yes, there are also rumors about indescretions at YSU under his watch). I would be surprised if they hire him.

I think it's more likely that we'll see Jim Tressel as the next coach of the Indianapolis Colts than the Akron Zips.

It's not like Akron is relevant in anything.....TheQ;993096 wrote:The ultra-conservative powers-that-be at UA would see his hiring as an embarassment and black mark on the reputation of the University.
Wait....I thought you were talking about the University of Akron?TheQ;993096 wrote:Don't look at this situatution as a sports fan, look at it from the point of view of those who are trying to run an academic institution with high standards.

I believe it may be for the better, at least I hope.Fab1b;992786 wrote:I am glad OSU moved on with UM however I still think we may have let Tress go and didn't actually have too, anyone else feel that still?
The MAC doesn't play offense so much as they don't play ANY defense. JT could establish a defense and destroy the MAC.Fab1b;992825 wrote:My concern for JT in Akron also centers around the fact that the MAC plays offense. How will JT coach in the MAC?
Do you have a source at Akron to confirm this?LJ;992890 wrote:And has a masters from Akron

Tress would bring instant credibility to the team and I could see Akron turning into a 6-7 win team right away. The MAC could use Tress too. The conference has lost its cache.
If Solich can win 9-11 games at OU, Tress would be just fine at Akron. The next time Ohio State plays Akron would be pretty interesting. Do we have them on any upcoming schedules?

If Tressel does go to Akron it won't be difficult for him to put a staff together. A lot of people he's work with previously will be available soon.

He won't even have to train a new guy on how he likes his coffee. Bollman has long perfected that artkrambman;993441 wrote:If Tressel does go to Akron it won't be difficult for him to put a staff together. A lot of people he's work with previously will be available soon.

Solich took the Ohio job at age 60, and Tressel is like 59, so if he doesn't care about the money and just wants to ride off into the sunset with a low stress job where you'll be viewed as a god like Frank, why not?

yeah that was definitely not a dig at Solich. Winning 9-10 games at Ohio University is borderline miraculous. I remember the Brian Knorr years haha.ts1227;993575 wrote:Solich took the Ohio job at age 60, and Tressel is like 59, so if he doesn't care about the money and just wants to ride off into the sunset with a low stress job where you'll be viewed as a god like Frank, why not?

I didn't take it as a dig. Just saying at a similar age, he can go the Frank route if he wanted to.

I have no doubt that he would be successful there if he wanted to. Just part of me wonders if he couldn't get a better job than Akron?ts1227;993605 wrote:I didn't take it as a dig. Just saying at a similar age, he can go the Frank route if he wanted to.

I concur. Had the dynamic duo actually stood by him, issued a punishment that fit the crime, the media storm would have passed. Look a The U - those issues at 10 times what happened at Ohio State. It's passed from the front page as well. Gee and Smith don't have that type of courage about them however.Fab1b;992786 wrote:I am glad OSU moved on with UM however I still think we may have let Tress go and didn't actually have too, anyone else feel that still?

I could become an Akron fan very easily. This is a good man who made a mistake. I have my opinion about the severity of his punishment, but regardless of that, he's not a Buckeye anymore. As has been stated on this thread, there is always the desire of Tressel to take a lower stress position in order to finish ot his tenure. Plus he would be undertaking the ultimate challenge. Were he to turn Akron into a winner - well, that'd be a nice way to finish his storied career.

Apparently he does, officially saying he isn't interested but is willing to help them find the right guy for the job.ts1227;993665 wrote:He definitely could, but does he care at this point?

This is simply not true. Pick6 said he was interested.
