I don't really want Meyer. I agree with the bolded line. UF hasn't done shit since Tebow left and Meyer gave up/quit. I don't want to see OSU scrambling for a coach and having another .500 season in a few years.

IMO, we need a strong, experienced coach with Ohio ties (ie Meyer), no matter if he only stays 3-5 years. In that time he can get the ship righted while utilizing the talent we have and recruiting more to take their place. Also during this period, it'll give potential "long term" coaches (ie Fickell, Beckman, etc.) the time to gain more experience, thus being better prepared to take over the reigns once the incumbent is ready to move on.

To Meyer, "righting the ship" is giving himself a few years of success then leaving the program in shambles

Look at Florida. They are in NO better shape than OSU is this year. I don't really have a strong opinion on who I want the next coach to be, I just want someone who is going to stay and build a long lasting program. That is not Urban.

I understand, but I think with the situation we're in right now, the next hire will not only have to coach, but will have to be able to recruit to whatever sanctions still yet to be determined, will have to win over an embarrassed and still angry alumni and fan base, all the while bringing a bunch of talented kids together and winning football games (and that includes beating tsun). This scenario doesn't lend itself to bringing in someone who may stay more than five years. I'm not saying it can't happen (see Tressel, Jim), but I wouldn't bet on catching lightning in a bottle again so soon.

Looks like OSU dragged their feet and missed out on Bob Davie.

I don't want Meyer. I'm all for letting Fickell keep the reigns and hire his own staff.

Do you really consider that the coach at your Alma matter is the most stable considering he twice looked to go to Michigan.

The longer these Meyer rumors go on, the more realistic I think it is he's the next coach at OSU. He knows this might be his one shot at this job and I think he has the itch to coach. Plus the fact that fans in Columbus want him so desperately feeds into his ego.

The fans don't desperately want "Urban Meyer"...they want a proven commodity that won't run the program 10 years into the crapper a la RichRod. He's available, he likely won't want nor receive a long term contract, OSU is an attractive job and we can afford him.

Desperation isn't something Ohio State has much experience with.

I don't think it is that Florida is without the athletes or anything like that. They lost a lot after their national championship season in 2006. The 2007 team, Tebow's Heisman year wasn't very good either. Then last season, the team still won a bowl game against PSU. This year they are dealing with QB issues and a new coaching staff. Hard to say Meyer left them in "shambles" only 1 year removed from a season in which he won a bowl game.

I agree. If Meyer wasn't considering taking the OSU job, he would have come out and said it IMO. I believe that he is most certainly entertaining the idea, maybe even strongly considering it.

1. He'd be handed the keys to the kingdom in one of the best football coaching jobs in all of college
2. He'd be at a school he attended and grew up a fan of in his home state
3. He'd be a king in Columbus. People are already frothing at the mouth over the prospect of having Meyer as coach
4. He wouldn't have to compete with in-state colleges for in-state talent. He'd be a recruiting machine in a very fertile recruiting area, plus still have his Florida recruiting ties. He could build a dominant team

This being said, I am still 60-40 (in favor of him coming to OSU) that he will coach at Ohio State.

Or that he should be. If the team's performances against Indiana and Purdue weren't an indicator, I don't know what is. They're clearly not playing for Fickell and the staff.
