I guess not earth shattering news, but thought it might be worthy.

I know a lot of fans want him at tOSU next year, but if somehow he doesn't end up there, who else is out that that could be considered a legitimate candidate?

AZ would have been a long commute from his new house in Upper Arlington.

darby - Would you characterize his interest as more or less than your interest in say, scoring?

I think the fact that he even met with the Arizona AD and considered the job is good news for Ohio State.

the only thing you worry about with Urban at OSU is whether or not Gene Smith will pay his coordinators.

We already know that they'll pay Urban, Gene Smith gone on record as saying they won't pay SEC salaries for coordinators.

Good chance Gene Smith is at the Citgo fairly soon.

Yeah, after all the NCAA stuff is done, he is gone.

But about coord pay, yeah, Illinois even has higher paid coords than OSU

Any list that does not include Pat Fitzgerald is irrelevant.

IF he is offered the job, do you go to OSU for 2-5 years, not mean expectations and be unemployed, or do you stay at your alma matter where you are king and stay for 20+ years turning out 6-7 win seasons at the highest academic school in the B1G?

If Fitzgerald leaves Northwestern, I highly doubt it will be for another B1G school. IMO, Fitz has a life contract at NW(barring Paterno and Tressel-like scandals).

The IF is there for any coach right now.

I seriously doubt that he would shy away from the challenge of coming to an Ohio State....and any coach worth their salt would not be content to stay where the expectations are lesser, even if it is his alma mater.

May be true...but I guess that would be his choice should he be offered an interview, etc. Its all speculation at this point.

Athlon Sports had these guys as the 'top targets' (as of when OSU was 4-3).

Urban Meyer
Tim Beckman
Dan Mullen
Bo Pelini
Lovie Smith
Brent Venables

Horrible list. I'd take Fickell over any of them but Meyer.

It had guys like Stoops, Gruden, Fitzgerland, Pinkel, and Petersen as longshots.

The Pinkel idea is growing on me. Knows Ohio HS hot beds and familar with how B1G operates and contends.

Do you guys really want Meyer? With him leaving UF having that success, do you think he really wants to come to OSU and have more stress because of what all has been going on? He wouldnt last more than a few years. You guys need a long term coach.

Yeah, those 2 and Mullen made no sense at all to me. It mentioned how Smith coached at OSU some time in the 90s I think, and how his candidacy would depend on how the Bears finished this season (contingent on him getting fired). Here was the article.
