I think we've lost to the eventual state champ like 8 or 9 times in the playoffs.
We could have beat DeSales if Moe would've played Gary DeHart at quarterback instead of wachtel.

Imagine if this site would've existed back then?

Or after we would go 10-0 in the AOL & then lose in the first round.

I was a kid during the 80's but remember hearing plenty of "Come on Mo!" from the stands....then in the 90's it was "Come on Mac!" And now it's "Come on Davault!"....probably from a lot of the same people.

The more things change.....

In the 90's it was a lot of "why on earth did we run the fake punt"?? One of Coach Mac's favorite plays of all time. However, it was an audible at the line so maybe he just gave to much power to the upman.

I would argue that the 1984 team was one of the top 3 teams of all-time at Orrville. They lost to Elyria Catholic 14-13 in State Semi's on Bolyard's missed field goal. Some say that Bolyard missed it because he had just got hit in the head the prior play.
Elyria Catholic goes on to win the State Championship in convincing fashion over Cinci Archbishop McNicholas 45-20

Three guys on that team that are probably in the discussion of the all-time great athletes in school history....all on 1 team.

Tom Bolyard went to Ohio St. initially, Jack Leeder went to Ohio U & Keith Denson went to Tennessee.

Taking nothing from the '98 team and their title but we have had some great teams here. Many many great teams before six divisions. Even as recent as the late 70's teams when ohsaa had only three divisions and I think only 4 or 8 teams made playoffs from each division. And prior those teams, the late 60s teams were also amazing. Mo always said his most talented team was the year they lost state title in columbus ith Bolyard, Denson, and others. State title team was definitely a great team but not the only one by far.
Great point

There were LOTS of teams with loads of talent. Some came to be and some didn't. When I was in school I felt we had the talent to beat anyone on any night (even in a "bad" year) but the question was always what team would show up? I also think with a large change in offensive philosophy had kids and coaches struggling to figure out who fit where? That may be one of the reasons we are all having the trouble we are with the current condition of our team in the Ville, we have really become use to having that "swag"? My junior year we had 8 guys get money to play sports at the next level (not all footbal) but good athletes on that team!! I think its important to remember that these are KIDS playing a GAME!

One thing Orrville has had a ton of on a pretty consistent level is athletes. I have not seen this team play, I get to tomorrow. from what I read on here and from general behind the scenes digging, my guess is that our overall athleticism is down this year. Our "athletes" are what bailed us out of many games against much larger teams. We have not for a very long time had the horses up front to control a between the tackle running game. I do see some athletic figures that are younger guys, but every indication I get is that most are of the "knucklehead" category...meaning they are in trouble in school, missing practice, not very into training in the off season, and generally on a path like too many others in the "ville" of trouble down the road and just another drain on society. I am thankful we have a head coach who will not give up on these kids...his effort is relentless when it comes to trying all he can do to mold a young man out of a rough start. If I were the coach we probably wouldn't have enough guys to field a team. Probably true of many on here if you took the time to dig. We need a mentor program here in Orrville. Way too many young men growing up here without good male role models. For many, the only true experience they have with that relationship is our sport's team coaches. They have a very important job.

Not to mention that a coach walks a fine line when it comes to disciplining...some kids can take a good old butt chewing and play better because they view that as motivation to get better. Other kids get a butt chewing and they tuck their tails or pout and then level of play drops. (I think more kids are like this now than ever before)

5k...yes, plenty of knuckleheads and I don't care attitudes...SAD!

I was always told that you don't have to worry if the coach is yelling at you, it is when they stop you are in trouble.

Also, James Bradley (one of the most physically gifted players of all time) ended up at Michigan State and Tom Moore was a 4 yr letter winner at OSU as a long snapper.

In 84 or 85 I remember Berry Tillison would hang out in one of the far door entries if we had to run for more than one lap, and coach Croskey would catch him half the time and we would run it again. Does any Body remember that darn cemetery hill in Jr high, that thing sucked.

Anyone know about the status of Tavy & Bryce? Heard both are dinged & may not play.

Would not be good to not have either of their services tomorrow.

I would imagine that they would dress him to be the backup if Bryce is out.
