How has the site become negative? Is it because I questioned rr1's contradictory comments, was it that some of us felt the coaches weren't capable, was it because these same people (OQB, riders1, BRF, Old Rider, Flash) and rr1 couldn't convince themselves that it was only the players "lack of talent" for the 1-9 season, was it because there was no reason for their annual chest-thumping, and finally...did the football team, and coaches lose the "rtr"and they're all upset?

They can't have a conversation wherein someone takes an opposing view of theirs so they proverbially, "took their ball and went home". So now rr1 nkeeps coming back reminding us as if its a huge loss.

I have not been to a boys basketball game in about two years, but I have been out to watch a very good Girls Basketball team. Not sure why you ask that question...but that is the answer.

Good point..there are more important things than high school football...any of us could be planning a funeral for our 6 year old....a little prespective goes a long way...and I'm sure all of us would agree with that.

I haven't been to a game this year..boys or girls..my check to the booster club cashed though...there are several ways to support our athletic programs other than attendance. For the record...I support Coach Slaughter 10000000%. They could go 0-23. Wouldn't change my mind one bit, but it doesn't need my endorsement. Until I run for school board (now there's an idea!!)....my opinion means as much as any of us...zilch.

I never called you stupid, that was rr1's iteration and you ran with it! I don't intend to effect your life, you wouldn't listen if I did! Unlike you, it matters not to me if they don't post, if you wish they were here, ask them to come back.

I ask that question because I wanted to know if there was "fan apathy" from rr1's perspective...but he doesn't support the team with his "attendance" either. For him it is apparently all about the "financial" support!

Here we go again...

Ok - I think the attacks on each other should end and we oughtta get back to posting about Red Rider football. Whether anyone likes or dislikes the coaches is obviously ones own opinion and we are all entitled to that. How about posting with some constructive thoughts...we ALL want our program(s) to be successful, so we can do our part by supporting our student/athletes the best way possible, regardless of who the coach is. Anyone wanta post on that subject? Just trying to turn this forum toward something positive.

Monheim led Illinois and all Big Ten freshmen with 86 tackles in 2012. Dec. 16, 2012

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - After leading all Big Ten freshmen in tackles during his freshman season, University of Illinois linebacker Mason Monheim (Orrville HS, Orrville, Ohio) has been named to Phil Steele's second-team all-freshman team.
Monheim started the final 10 games of the season after moving into a starting role in a week three win over Charleston Southern. The true-freshman led Illinois with 86 tackles on the season, the most among all Big Ten Freshmen by a wide margin. Monheim ranked 15th in the conference in tackles per game (7.2), while no other B1G freshman was in the top-50. He also added 6.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception, one pass breakup and recovered one fumble during his rookie campaign. In eight Big Ten games, Monheim averaged 8.6 tackles per game to rank ninth overall.
Monheim was named the team's outstanding defensive skill award winner at the annual postseason banquet and was twice honored as Big Ten Freshman of the Week during the 2012 season. The first was on Oct. 1 following his 11-tackle, one-forced fumble performance against Penn State. The second came on Nov. 12 after a career-high 15 tackles and 1.5 TFLs against Minnesota.

Yes, the ultimate decision on putting the time and work in is up to the individual, but all the resources are at their fingertips. The coach cannot force a player to pout the work in. If the threat of kicking them off the team was used....we would be down to 15-20 kids. Complain all you want about our current staff, but those DI schollies are hard to ignore.

No it didn't happen by accident -all that talent and NO state titles! Ask Norwayne if they had all those D1 players???

No, because they had a better team. We had holes up front, a QB playing his 2nd game, and a LB/RB with a separated shoulder? Hmmmm. We have gone thru this before. Many State Champions, especially of smaller division schools win state titles w/o DI recruits. Happens quite often actually. The bigger key at that level is the more complete team. I still think Norwayne will end up with a D1 recruit or 2 from that group. fwiw.

A QB playing his 2nd game? Wasn't Lichti cleared to play that game? Why then was Brenner playing the position? He was also our best receiver and down the field threat. I know I am living in the past right?

That would be a good post... if this were last years' forum. 5knots is right, gotta have a " TEAM " to win it all. I think the point of mentioning all those great athletes was to restore some pride in our program as well as in our coaching staff, and rightfully so.

15-20...on the average Friday night, that's about how many that gets on the field anyway. What's the point of having 40-50 members on the team if more than half are not meeting the goals and/or requirements of the coaching staff.

Many of you are continuously "hoo-rahing" the coaching staff for the victories and D1 athletic students and that's fine, but now that you don't have either, in your view, it seems that the coaches have no responsibility at all in what is deemed failure. Now, all of a sudden, it's the players responsibility only. I get it that the student/player needs to be responsible to a great degree for their overall success, be it sports and more importantly, academics. But you can't isolate the coach from his role now that its gotten ugly! You can't do that and that too is hard to ignore. That's what I'm saying.

I don't think the coach is being isolated from his role at all. 5knots clearly stated that the staff has provided the kids the tools to succeed and it's up to them to take advantage of those tools. That's all a coach can do really. And yes, I will continue to "hoo-rah" this staff for that reason.

Rider fans have certainly earned the right to "brag", "boast", "gloat" or as I prefer to say, talk proudly of our teams. Most people that live in this town are, and always will be, proud of our teams and their accomplishments. Those that aren't (that would probably be you Series62) probably have an underlying reason, ie. personal "beef" with the program (s). I grew up in this town, played sports for OHS and most likely you didn't do either. Those of us that have are the ones that can truely understand the "tradition".
