I honestly don't care if they can help themselves. There are victims that have the rest of their lives affected because some creep can't keep his hands off little kids.

I see this reply shows a lack of understanding of what I was trying to say. Well done.

To say you "don't care if they can help themselves" means that somehow you think that "If only these guys would understand they are creepy and there are consequences and they are ruining childrens' lives then we can stop them" when they will never understand. Its like me asking you to grow wings and fly away.

I am not asking you to feel bad for the pedophiles, I am asking you to understand their sickness so you can do more to prevent this type of stuff from happening.

the problem is that the consensus from people in the field seems to be that they cannot be helped or rehabilitated...whatever that may mean in this context. Short of administering lie detector tests to everyone, you cannot find out one is a pedophile until he offends. There seems to be a thread of psychopathology that runs through these individuals. I say that because they do what they do regardless of the consequences. The live in our present society, so they cannot be ignorant of the suffering these crimes cause, yet they commit them anyway. THat is a basic tenet of psychopathology. Now maybe there are people who have these desires and chose not to act on them because they know they cause great damage. But if these people don't admit this in an unsolicited way, we won't ever know about them.

Thats far from the "consensus". The only consensus seems to be that there is no cure for it. But that does not mean that the behavior cannot be prevented through things like cognitive behavioral therapy.

Shoot. Them. All.

The only question is where and what caliber.

Maybe so. I can't see how you profile for it much without violating all sorts of rights. You usually don't know who these people are until it's too late.
