Then Penn State should change the law. If Joe Pa wasn't the coach at PSU for so long and had an unbreakable love for the University, I hire a team of lawyers and sue the crap out of Penn State. Guaranteed victory.

Penn State can't change law.

You aren't the person who was fired so you can't sue them over this. Maybe Mr. Paterno is filing suit. We will see if it's a victory or not.

I should have said "If I'm Joe Pa".

Penn State can change the law. Book it.

That cannot be their line of thinking because the AD and Coach McQuaery still are employed.

It can be. It also doesn't need to be the same line of thinking applied to every employee.

Yes. You probably should have.

Penn State may be able to influence the change but they are reliant on the legislative process.

Really? You really think that? 1 person broke the law (the AD) and another stood and watched the alleged rape and did nothing, yet JoePa wasn't "representing the university the way the Trustees wanted"? So the trustees want laws to be broken and rapes watched?

even if the AD and McQueary went to the law , how hard to you think it would be for Joe Pa to have that squashed? Paterno has major clout in the state of pa. dont forget the prosecutor that originally investigated this case disappeared from the planet without a trace.

No, I don't believe trustees want laws to be broken.

Yes, I believe that the visibility of Joe Paterno combined* with the attention garnered to him by the public commands a certain expectation of the Board with regard to how he portrays the University through his actions. His actions, or lack thereof, were not what they wanted to see in this sensitive scenario and the actions of firing him were more representative of what the are willing to tolerate.

As for JoPa and the law........you have to be an idiot to know that he wasnt the ring leader in covering this up. It was HIS locker room that this guy was banging kids in. He is the Boss.......he runs that university. Nobody got in his way, that slimeball stayed there for only one reason. Jopa let it happen.
I guess the Prosecutors are idiots also since he hasn't been charged.
The locker room is the property of Penn State University.
The Board of trustees are the ones in charge, the boss of the operations of the University.
They do not even know the identity of the "shower kid".

....
We have a ways to go yet and prosecutors have nothing to do with Civil lawsuits and they don't grant $20 million to victims.

Probably for turning a blind eye while little boys were raped. Only a matter of time before McQueary joins JoePa in the unemployment line and McQueary should face charges of aiding and abetting a child rapist since he stood there and did nothing.

He completely failed morally as a human being but, more importantly as far as Penn State goes, he failed them as a leader.

That is enough to fire him.

As the head of the program, he should have followed up on the matter when his own assistant coach told him something "sexual" had occurred between Sandusky and the child. Don't argue that he didn't know, as he now claims, because he testified under oath that what he was told happened was "sexual" in nature.

If you are the head of a department or other area in any business, and a similar situation happens -- it is very likely you would also be fired for failing in your responsibilities as a leader.

And the firing is justified.

And Sleeper: You are delusional if you don't think the lawsuits coming will be very costly. PSU is not going to want to go to court and have children testifying about being molested on PSU property by a man given access by PSU officials. They'll settle to keep these cases out of court, and the settlement will be in the tens of millions before all this done.

Except for the report that was filed in 1998 leading to Sandusky's retirement. The retirement package included emeritus status (from being a professor); giving him complete access to the university, status that was granted by the BoT. That report included detectives of university police who found no wrong doing.

There is blood on the hands at every administrative official that has been around since 1998 for knowing about this report and granting him emeritus status instead of firing him in 1998. Let's not forget the janitors either who knew about all of this in 2000 I believe and chose to do nothing after seeing it.

From what I've read Big red would probably be facing charges if he wasn't such a bug part of the case against Sandusky

Link?

It's pretty common for people to always assume huge lawsuits but they rarely happen in cases like this. I'll be surprised if it goes over $20 million total.

Maybe the boy slipped while taking a shower and Sandusky went to pick him up? Anything can be perceived as sexual nature but when the truth comes out it could be completely misinterpreted. Fact is, Joe Pa did what all leaders do, follow protocol in the face of uncertainty. You've all said it yourself, "If I was that guy who saw a child getting raped, I would beat the shit out of the man, etc" So maybe the guy wasn't sure what he saw and it wasn't that obvious.

Haters gon' hate I suppose. People try to proxy everything with "If I blame Joe Pa, it looks like I'm against child rape and those that support it are for it". Pretty hilarious.

That was a little more serious.

Also
LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- The Los Angeles Archdiocese July 15 announced the largest church settlement of sexual abuse lawsuits to date, agreeing to pay more than 500 alleged victims a total of $660 million.
So about 1 million a victim? I win again LOL

In your mind maybe. Sandusky had almost 2 decades worth of kids to molest (thanks to the AD, McQueary, the janitor, JoePa, the BoT, etc.) I am willing to bet there is more than 20 kids that will get settlements. If not, I will buy iPad 2's for everyone on this thread.

Agreed, but that is the way the legal system works.
