Canfield is usually good for a couple years, then down for a couple years. They're always tough and well coached, but they don't reload like Howland, Poland, and Hubbard do.

The above list that I posted isn't my prediction for who will win the conference.

I have no prediction... and I won't make one. All I'll say, is that I don't expect anyone to run the table in the conference, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended in a two or three way tie.

Struthers has a 4 game losing streak against Lakeview (2008-2011). They have a 6 game losing streak against Canfield (2004-2009). They have a 6 game losing streak against Howland (2002-2007). They have a 10 game losing streak against Poland (1998-2007). And they have an 11 game losing streak against Hubbard (2001-2011).

Hopefully we'll see some of those losing streaks come to an end very soon.

Ja'les is. They're referring to the younger brother, Matrell. He'll be a Junior next year.

Still a little skeptical, but very optimistic.

I wasn't exactly thrilled with the coaching hire, to be honest. I know a lot of people in town aren't either. But... I had a very encouraging talk with my Uncle earlier today.

Don't write them off just yet... he hasn't even been there for more than a couple days yet. Give him some time.

I think that the biggest problem he could have, is getting the kids to sell out and buy in to his system.

... but the guy at least deserves a fair shot.

Which candidate would have thrilled you and a lot of people in town? Just curious.

I guess the superintendent really really wanted Sean Guerriero from Springfield, but he didn't put in an Application.

They received 30 applications... they gave 7 of them interviews. Of those 30, you'd think that at least one of them would be a well known coach with some experience.

Regardless... the BOE/Superintendent made their decision. I support it... I never said I didn't support it, just that I wasn't thrilled by it. Anyway, the decision was made, I support it... moving on.

The only thing I've heard, not from the players, is that an old defensive coach will probably join Kuntz in Struthers... Mike Hoelzel. I don't know if he will or not though.

He asked someone in Poland to come with him too... but it's doubtful that he'll leave Poland. Kuntz wants him to come to Struthers, and Brumgard wants him to stay in Poland.

Right now, I'd say Hoelzel is probable... he's already left his coaching job at Canfield. I'd say it's doubtful that they get this coach from Poland though.

I heard something about a coach delbocchio as well. He's a good coach. Good mind, possible HC material if he mentored under the right coach

Weight lifting started on Tuesday.

The coaches are...

Kurt Kuntz - Head Coach
Mike Hoelzel - Assistant... I'm guessing he's gonna be the Defensive Coordinator.

Other assistants are Masalino and Pascarella.

With the addition of Hoelzel, it's probable that they'll run more of a traditional 4-3, as a base defense.

I'm guessing you're referring to Tony DelBoccio from Howland. Is he an offensive guy, or a defensive guy?

There are more coaches than just the 5 mentioned, but those are the only ones that I know of right now.

I hope it's in Struthers on the 7th, or in Brookfield on the 14th.

I think it'd make the most sense to have away games in weeks 4 and 5, and then make week 6 against Poland the Homecoming game.

That'd be an earlier HC than Struthers is used to... but I don't think anyone would mind much if it's against Poland.

If it is in Struthers on the 14th, as mentioned above, the Homecoming game will likely be against Canfield in week 8.

The schedule would be set then. It'd look something like this...

Week 1: Campbell
Week 2: at Lakeview
Week 3: at Mogadore Field (I'm not 100% certain on this one)
Week 4: Brookfield (I'll take you guys's word for it)
Week 5: at Hubbard
Week 6: Poland
Week 7: at Beaver Local
Week 8: Canfield (Homecoming)
Week 9: at Niles
Week 10: Howland (Senior Night)

Swish!!

Thanks SF, for confirming. I tried to look up the schedule a couple months ago, but they didn't have it listed yet.

It's a hell of a lot tougher than they're used to playing. The only cupcake on there is BL.

It's probably the toughest schedule that they've played, since the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

I agree with you on that. No cupcakes this year. Even BL might have something.

It's a meat grinder from start to finish.

Maybe the new coach can get them ready for this killer schedule.

Brutal is a debatable way to describe the schedule.

It's challenging, no doubt. Many of those games can easily be blowouts, if they aren't prepared. If the kids are putting the work in in the weight room, and if the coaches are up to par, they shouldn't get blown out once though.

It's certainly not a meat grinder. I think Mooney and Ursuline would have a serious objection to calling it one.

You may or may not like and agree with where their athletes come from, and you may or may not think that they have an unfair advantage... but no one can deny that both Youngstown Parochials do go through a meat grinder every year.

I'm not saying they will or should go 15-0 and win by 40 points a game... because it's basically a 99.999% foregone conclusion that they won't. Recent history says that they won't even have a winning record.

They should be capable of beating anyone on the schedule though...

Struthers can turn it around starting this year. It will have to start like you said in the weight room they can have a winning record. Beating Campbell would sure to be a pleasure im sure! and also get the season started off on the right foot winning the big game at your house. See everyone in struthers in Aug~~~

They should have talent and with Muntean having a full year to play with at QB this year as a junior, it will be very exciting to see what he does with kimbrough either at WR or TB, and Stewart also returning in the backfield. The Line will be key for struthers, they MUST improve
