Mountaineers have filed suit in West Virignia alleging among others things Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Denigration fo the Football Conference and Material Breach of Contract.


The Mountaineers want out of the 27 mo. waiting period the conference bylaws call for so they can join the B12 in 2012. This action might cause the Big East offices to sharpen their pencils in negotiations with the university.

I meant they'll get out of the 27 month deal.

They'll prove that the BE is crumbling; when there's only 1 original BE school, you can prove the conference is dead.

They will just negotiate a more reasonable exit timeline and exit fee

WVU already issued a check to the conference for $2.5M which was cashed. WVU has argued by accepting this figure the conference already settled out with the unviersity.

I imagine some additional negotiations will commence and this matter will be resolved before any serious discovery takes place.

It's going to be a close call. I'd almost say no, but I think the Big East will magically still receive one. That's if they get Boise. Boise would have better BCS qualifying points than everybody they have lost, but the depth of the conference has definitely taken a hit

They gotta let the BE keep their AQ status at least for a few years. See how recruiting picks up w/ these 6 new schools--and you have to believe they will, right? These are all schools in good-to-great markets where recruits will jump at the opportunity to play in an AQ status. They obviously won't be pulling in the 5 star recruits--but that 2nd tier guy who may not have gotten a Tennessee offer might just now go to Memphis.

Give it a few years, if the recruiting picks up...let them keep the AQ status.

I also think the new rule that allows coaches to offer a guaranteed 4 year scholarship will sway some of those borderline kids that may be a casualty of oversigning at an SEC school.

I think it lives and dies with Boise. If they get them, they keep it. If not, then no. I mean who would be their best program in the new Big East?

In all honesty the New Big East might be better than the current lineup as far as depth of quality but from the national perception/name brand standpoint it takes a hit. WVU is a big loss, but frankly Pitt and Syracuse hasn't done jack squat in a long time. Despite a slight resurgence last year (8-5) and a decent start this year, the Cuse were often a one, two or three win a year ball club for about five years running. Pitt has had many years this past decade where they have finished .500 or maybe 7-5. Their best season was in 2009 when they finished 10-3 and was second in the conference. They have suffered some really bad losses in recent years to BG, Ohio, got shut out by a bad Oregon State in the Sun Bowl and lost to a poor Utah club this year.

Boise, Air Force, Houston and UCF have put out a better football program during that time.

Overall, the Big East did add some depth. Boise State and Houston were good gets. Navy is solid and then maybe SMU will bounce back? Obviously the Big East hasn't been the SEC, so maybe the drop off won't be much?

UCF is just meh and Air Force was just sort of a throw in to satisfy Boise State. Air Force hasn't really been consistently good though
