What is everyone's opinion on 3D TV? Is it something we are just starting to scratch the surface on, or will it go the way of mini CDs?

Im looking to get another TV larger than 50" and 3D LEDs seem to be about the same price now that I paid for my last 50" a couple years ago.

My question is, do I go with a 3D TV or just stick with an LED and get a couple extra inches for the same price

I think 3D TV will be pretty huge once they start selling no glasses models. But according to Samsung that could be a decade away (at least for high resolution legitimate TVs).

3DTV is fucking stupid. Don't waste your money.

You can get a good 42" for $400-500.

I got a 42" plasma at Best Buy for $400 a few weeks ago.

everything i have heard about the 3D without glasses is it pretty much makes people nauseous and they cant watch for very long. 3D movies will probably stick around, however i doubt TV will.

I have a 3D plasma but I got it because it was cheaper than the non-3D version.

My parents just got a pretty nice 55" Sony Bravia from HHGregg for $1100. Pretty decent price, it's LCD btw.

I see 3D going by the wayside in the foreseeable future.

They are a waste.

You probably got a terrible television.

But yes, 3D is pretty terrible right now.

LED is not a display technology. It's a backlighting technology. LED televisions are LCD tvs. The difference is that it allows them to be much thinner and lighter but also enables a more even brightness across the entire screen. This also gives them, in general, better and more consistent black levels throughout the set than standard LCD tvs.

Average plasma: 301 watts
Average LCD (standard): 111 watts
Average LCD (LED): 101 watts

Yes, LCDs use less power.

I prefer LED, but right now, the top 3 tvs on cnet are plasmas.

As for 3d, I would buy the sets with passive 3d(no active shutter glasses)

Any experts out there. I'm looking for a LED LCD tv when I get back from deployment. I'm looking between 37" to 42", I may even consider a 32". Right now I have a little 22" LED LCD Vizio that's just not cutting it. I want one that can do the internet apps if possible. Any suggestions on brands? I'm kinda partial to Vizio but I'd go for anything that's good.
