Guess what? I've received a ticket for a 3 am rolling stop in my own neighborhood, just like your whiny little buddy in his article. Obeying the law doesn't enable tyranny. And that's not what I said. It's this idea that "if you just do whatever the authorities/those stronger than you tell you to nothing bad will happen". That is the view I was speaking of and it enables tyranny, bullying, etc. Obeying the law isn't bad. Quit trying to skew what I've said.

I didn't skew bupkis. I specifically said "obey the law," and you said "that's a view that enables tyranny."

And if the authorities "tell you to do something," more often than not it involves obeying said law. Hence, do what they say and nothing bad will happen. I'm having trouble understanding why a reasonably intelligent young man such as yourself is having such difficulty grasping this basic concept.

You said "obey the law and nothing bad will happen". Not just obey the law. Implying that if you would simply do whatever the authorities say nothing bad will happen. Meaning that you're subscribing to a Kantian "do it and love it" view of duty. IE: Don't fucking question it just do it.

And grow up and stop calling me "bupkis", little guy, etc

Apologies, I read it as if there was a comma there. "I didn't skew, bupkis" is much different than "I didn't skew bupkis" (what you said and not an insult to me).

The problem is twofold: English is a ridiculous language, and I'm illiterate.

It's worked fine for me too, but you act like it's a fail proof system. It's like saying if you don't smoke you won't get lung cancer. Obviously the odds are much lower, but to pretend like cops/other authority figures don't ever abuse their positions with people who haven't done anything wrong is naive.

There are as many assholes working in blue uniforms as there are in any other profession out there.

I'd argue the percentage is probably higher, if only slightly, because assholes are drawn to positions where they can exert power over other people.

Not to say most cops are assholes, because they aren't.

I agree with what you said though. I don't think most cops are assholes the same way I don't think most people are assholes, but all it takes is 1 asshole cop to render the whole "don't break the law and do what they say and you'll be fine" argument moot, and there is way more than 1 example out there.

I heard this story on 610 on the way in this morning and they interviewed a lawyer that claims this is illegal wiretapping and millions of Americans are entitled to damages. Fat chance that will ever happen with the Homeland Security Administration; wherein each and every person is a potential terrorist and is therefore subject to monitoring, up to and including wiretaps and GPS tracking.
