Yes, and they've done a good job of weeding out the guys who levy zero punishment, lie about it, and then lobby for special treatment (play in the bowl game with no suspension).
FIFY
I don't think Auburn weeded out anybody....

Doing something illegal, against the law - suspended 1 or 2 games.

Doing something legal (selling your own stuff) - suspended 5 games.

Sure, makes sense.
You could sell heroin to middle school kids and the NCAA wouldn't care. They only have rules against things that you can't be arrested for doing.

So does your workplace, most likely, but I don't see you bitching about that.

1 or 2 games is what the OSU "bad boys" should have got for their pocket change violations. Instead Posey is sitting TEN games and Pryor was run out of school.

One or two games for flunking a drug test is barely a slap on the wrist, and considering it could not be ignored ( the coach had to do something) is no cause for "applauding" Miles on disciplining his players. Miles is only one step better than Brian Kelley at ND for suspending Michael Floyd for the "off season" for his 3rd DUI arrest. (then reinstates him in time for the season.). Yessir, we have some great disciplinarians in the college coaching ranks.

Shit, when did Floyd get his 2nd and 3rd DUI? I thought he was getting things straightened out. :(

According to NOLA.com they tested positive for synthetic marajuana.

Really a shame. With all the crap going down everywhere in the past couple of years, these young men still make poor choices that hurt the whole, the team. Its easy to point the finger at the coach, or this person or that person. But the bottom line is, its on these players. But so much is on how you were brought up, what they value, the discipline or lack thereof they learned from their upbringing. Sure, good kids get in trouble too. But I'll bet if you look at the backgrounds of most college players who get in trouble, they were brought up in tough surroundings. ITs not an excuse, its the reality of their situation. You can't just turn someone around in one, two or three years who has been programmed for 18yrs. Its a disturbring trend right now. But I also think coaches are going to have to be more in tune with some of these, and keep them on a shorter leash. That being said, when you have 100 players on ur team, there is no way to police them 24/7.

Don't worry, he's good to go!...and he has been behaving so far since his conviction in June. For his 3rd alcohol related brush with the law he was suspended by Kelley for spring workouts...and reinstated in August in time for the first game!

Re: Boone....OSU policy has written policy of an automatic suspension of 2 games for a second offense. I suppose a 3rd offense would be greater. Quite frankly, I don't know how anybody doesn't at least suspend 1 game for a FIRST offense that involves illegal use of drugs or alcohol....and during the season should be even more.

The things that are obvious and should be noted are that 1).young men screw up and no institution is immune. 2). There is a huge disparity between what the NCAA metes out as punishments for different crimes against "amateurism" and what coaches mete out for dangerous and illegal behavior.

They were smoking fake weed. I hate LSU, but can't say they're dirty because some players decided to light up.

LSU needs to "stay classy" in this game. Still passing up by around 40 points. The 3rd quarter for LSU was about the most perfect quarter any team can play. Cant wait for the Bama game.....when we are full strength. I still predict LSU to get beat. They are bound to have a down game since they have played almost perfect all year. +14 in the turnover area.

some crazy shit...

PITTSBURGH — A 13-year-old in the U.S. who became ill after smoking synthetic marijuana and had a double lung transplant has died.
  • Tonya Rice tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper that her 13-year-old son, Brandon, died Thursday morning at a hospital in Pennsylvania.
The boy smoked the fake marijuana out of a plastic candy dispenser and suffered chemical burns to both lungs. He was put on a respirator in June and had a double lung transplant in September.
The boy's mother says anti-rejection drugs he's taken since the transplants weakened his immune system and made him unable to fight off a recent infection.
Gov. Tom Corbett signed a law outlawing such substances a few days after the boy became ill. The ban took effect in August.
