This stinks. We just lost a great recruiter.

Was Fickell ever in the running for this job, or have any interest?

Would have loved to see him retained on the new coaching staff - the man can flat out recruit. However, it was obvious he would eventually become a head coach himself. He'll do well at Akron and set himself up for a bigger job in a few years. Good for him.

its nice to see him get a head coaching job, and it sucks ND lost their best recruiter, but do you think he will be able to recruit well enough at akron to make them a consistent contender in the MAC?

I think Fickell was a candidate. I saw an interview with Tress and he was talking about Fickell potentially ending up there

Not an ND fan but I knew who Rob Ianello was because of his recruiting skills. Hopefully he can surround himself with good people and continue to recruit well. With the facilities and his recruiting there is no reason to think Akron can't get the top players in the MAC. If Brian Kelly leaves Cincy then maybe Akron can snag some of the players that committed there.

This ruined my day. He was an integral part of Notre Dame's recruiting successes in recent years. That, and the media bumping everyone up two stars.. :D

Hopefully this can be the hire to get Akron football up to where they have come so close to being at times.

Ianello settled for a cheap job in a dead end. He could have gotten a better D-I job. Maybe he is looking at the Pros next as an assistant after Akron implodes.

Actually Akron is a great job IMO. They got really nice facilities and a good fan base. There is not a good team in northeast Ohio so people will go watch them.

Good luck to him...Hopefully he gets the recruits and helps build the U of A into a very good team.
