[LEFT]Within a couple hours of maybe the most pathetic playoff performance in Penguins history, the sloppy, senseless and stupid-beyond-words 8-4 loss to the Flyers in Game 3 on Sunday, the tattered remains of this team boarded an aircraft for Pittsburgh. That`s where they`re set to practice the next two days, then return here for Game 4.

Do us a favor, gentlemen: Don`t come back.

No, I mean it.
Just fold the sweaters like you`ve folded mentally in these Stanley Cup playoffs. Pack up like you`ve packed it in, and head off to Moose Jaw or Magnitogorsk for the summer.

But don`t come back here.

Not until you`re ready to use — and keep — your heads. Not until you`re prepared to take the ice with some semblance of dignity, discipline and, yeah, maybe even a shift or two of defense.

Want to send a busload of call-ups from Wilkes-Barre?

Go nuts. It`s right up the road.

Those kids, even the full-time knuckle-draggers, wouldn`t soil the franchise`s reputation like Arron Asham did with his disgraceful stick assault on Brayden Schenn, that before jabbing Schenn while face-down on the ice. The NHL`s suspension should be fierce.

A friend told me he heard a recent interview w/ Bylsma and he was asked about Fluery playing next game. He said he will be starting the next four games.

Riiiiiiight.

I did get a chuckle out of this....

@MarkMaddenX: I'm embarrassed by yesterday's Pens cheap shots. But Flyers fans shudnt preach, not after 5 DECADES of thug life.

Pens always try and goon it up against the flyers, except they don't have the muscle. Flyers can score while being bruisers, penguins can't.

This team outside of a select few actually care.
Yes. Disgusting loss where they wanted to go out like bitches instead of trying to win. Congrats, Pens...you did a great job starting fights while Philly was scoring goals. Nothing like being arguably the best team in the league for the final two months of the regular season and then going out in four games in the postseason because they don't have the heart. Pitt scores, Philly comes back. Philly scores, Pitt crumbles.

The lack of physical play is what really pissed me off. The start of game two was great, both teams were hitting hard. Then what happened? Pittsburgh resorts to poke checks and letting Philly do whatever they wanted with the puck. Giroux abused them. I was enraged.

Really? Not Fluery giving up 17 goals?

Well yeah that too. He gave up a lot of easy stops. It's a total failure all around. Even the announcers were clowning Pittsburgh for letting Philly players dance around the net and not putting a body on anyone.

I think the lack of legit physical play is more of a "piss you off" thing than Fleury. That's gotten into the "so sad it's kinda funny in a sad way" level. To where you want to make a drinking game where you do a shot every time he lets one by. I mean, when you have moments like yesterday where the score was 5-4 with one minute to go in the second and then notice it's 7-4 one minute into the third...at some point you have to laugh because it's more comic than anything. Like a "Okay...who replaced these pros with the biggest fail team in some YMCA youth league?" sort of thing where you don't even know if what you're watching is real or a really elaborate Punk'd episode.

I'm with you. I can handle losing, it doesn't bother me, but I get heated when I see lack of effort and just flat out shit play. It's the playoffs, no excuse for it.

Hard to imagine a drastic shift in this series but the Bruins choked away a 3-0 series lead to the Flyers a few years ago. It's happened 3 times in NHL history.

Green Bay comes to mind even though that was football and not a series.

Just looking for reference, since switching to an eight-seed-per-conference format in 1984, the NBA has had four 8's beat a 1:

Denver over Seattle in 1994
New York over Miami in 1999
Golden State over Dallas in 2007
Memphis over San Antonio in 2011

Since switching to an eight-seed-per-conference format in 1994, the NHL has had nine 8's beat a 1:

San Jose over Detroit in 1994
New York Rangers over Quebec in 1995
Ottawa over New Jersey in 1998
Pittsburgh over New Jersey in 1999
San Jose over St. Louis in 2000
Montreal over Boston in 2002
Edmonton over Detroit in 2006
Anaheim over San Jose in 2009
Montreal over Washington in 2010

Los Angeles over Vancouver will almost certainly be added to this list this year. So, in the 19 years since the switch to sixteen teams, there will have been 10 years where an 8 upset a 1 (53%). Compared to the NBA (best proxy since they are the only other major American sports league to let 16 teams into the playoffs), which has had the 8 over 1 upset in 4 of 28 years (14%).

My posts were obvious jabs at the penguins choking, nothing more, nothing less. I know top teams choke all the time, i've watched the bruins do it many times.
