The SEC turned down WVU so none of the teams would have to go north and play in the cold, snowy weather late in the season...duh!

Also seen if Notre Dame had a choice..they would join the ACC..I wonder why?

It would still allow them to be more of a national brand. Playing games in Boston, Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, etc still keeps them in all of those recruiting hotbeds. They will still be able to recruit in the Midwest at the same time. Keep the annual game with USC and you have the west coast as well.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to us being in the ACC for all sports. Renew yearly rivalries with Miami and FSU, and we'd still have spots like what was said with USC and UM etc.

This makes a lot of sense. Playing a primary schedule of all Bee One Gee teams doesn't really do anything for Notre Dame football. Geography has a lot to do with all these moves, but obviously not in the way it previously had. It is much more fruitful as a conference, or even as a school any more, to have an "in" to multiple recruiting hotspots (along with TV exposure).

That is also a big reason why I was and would be surprised if WVU ended up in the SEC. That would be the prime example of expansion being counterproductive. It isn't about how many fans travel to games, the SEC isn't hurting for fans. WVU doesn't open up any kind of recruiting ground or worthwhile TV market. It'd just be another team splitting the money with no return to the other schools on the investment. It is the same reason I never bought Clemson/Florida State - the football programs probably fit, but there is no added value by their locations.

Not a lot of sheep in West Virginia, at least not that I've seen in my time there.

I once bought a shirt in WV that said, "West Virginia...Where men are men and sheep are nervous." I take them at their word.

Speaking of that, I'm going to try and find that shirt if I end up tailgating at the game Saturday. And I'll probably add ohiochatter.com to the back - you're welcome in advance for the free advertising.

Justin you should try and hold up an Ohio Chatter sign at gameday

"Come make fun of Ohio State at Ohiochatter.com"

That'll get at least a million hits lol

I'll be leaving work around 1 or 2 on Friday to get in to Motown around 7pm.

Thats cool. We're going to the Florida-South Carolina game in November - about a 7 hour drive, but have to wait on one person in the party to be off work on Friday night. Hoping that one ends up being a night game.

Oh shit, I thought we were on our own private thread. Please tell me this isn't where I was answering the "how much would it cost" question.

Cue everyone jumping on me for not listing my source... and go.
Maybe because WVU is shitty and has absolutely ZERO to contribute to the SEC.
