Here's another question for you. Let's say OSU goes after some of the names you mentioned and they are turned down. How much damage does that do to the program for whoever takes over? There was a lot of publicity about Notre Dame when they didn't get their top couple choices. Now, ND's program was probably worse off at the time they were hiring than OSU is now (depending on how you view the NCAA thing hanging over their head or the ultimate outcome), but it was at least a question to ponder about how really the tradition didn't mean as much to candidates anymore.

So again, would you guys rather OSU shoot for the stars at the risk of looking kind of foolish (if they were to be turned down several times) or go with a lesser known name that allows them to sell him as their top pick?

To answer your other question, I would hope that the Ohio State officials (although I'm nor sure Gene Smith has the ability) would do their due diligence in private before talking about who they are targeting. That way, none of the names on my list, or any of the others being bandied about would be out in the public eye.

I'm sure that Stoops is a real stretch, as migh be Gruden and, to a lesser extent, Pelini. The others are certainly within the rhelm of possibility. That being said, Tressel wasn't my first pick either, and that didn't turn out too badly..although it certainly did end badly and I'm not sure it is over yet.

Here's hoping that Gene Smith gets swept out as well. Him still being the AD, IMO, is more damaging that a swing and a miss on a new big name HC.
