Actually, I have a serious question:

Why is this "genious" even on this thread? We have one of the best match-ups in the state here to discuss, end we're getting this crap from some underclassmen at Orrville?

REALLY!!

You guys would beat Mentor? You guys can't even beat Copley. You clearly have no clue about football.

Cheers.
Not sure about that, but Steubenville's strength would be the ground game. In four games so far, other than a few 3rd and 20's, they did not need to put the ball in the air at all. Even 3rd and 20 isn't a bad running down when you average 8 or 10 yards per rush, especially when you are going for it on 4th down.

Ursuline's record means nothing to me, this will be the toughest game of the year for BR, but I welcome the rain.

These stats might mean a bit more except for the fact that Steubenville's opponents combined record is 4 and 9, and the teams they played probably won't end up even being that good

Ok let me slow this down for you.

The rest of my partial quote you used:

/

So my point is, I don't think BR would mind the rain because their game is power football. Weather is an equalizer so you might infer from my post that Ursuline will be a huge challenge. Or if you cannot infer that, just read my entire post.

Win or lose, this game will show where BR is this year and help for the playoff run. I watched Ursuline dominate BR last year. I am not sure BR is better or worse, Ursuline had to have taken a step down, though.

and BTW, I am going to the game to see BR exact some revenge, and I see no reason, they cannot.

Yawn. I'm "debating", not arguing. That guys wound up, not me. Learn the difference. Am I not allowed to post? If you're just gonna call me out in every post from here on out because you're a whiner, go troll another forum.

Just checking in....if only to clarify.....'Red Rider Nation' does not speak for Orrville fans in general, if that's not already obvious.

We're proud of our tradition and team, but in no way would any of us...ever....do anything but pay respect to teams like Ursuline, Steubenville and the like. We love a chance to meet on the field, but we know we'd probably be a few steps out of our league in doing so.

Good luck to both teams this week.

I understand what you are saying. That said, I remember two other matchups with Ursuline: one in 1984 at Stambaugh when we only scored 8 points in a driving rain storm and won 8-zip with a team that won the div.2 State Championship and another in a snow blizzard with a very muddy field at Steubenville when we lost 6 nothing. Although I'm a staunch Big Red fan and booster, I try to look at both sides of the coin.
Over the years, Youngstown teams have been very good at power football and severe weather favors that type of game.
And from a spectator's point of view, I don't welcome the rain.

Cheers RRR:thumbup:

Rain just ended here. The radar looks clear to the south. Looks like it will be dry at kickoff with a slight chance of rain.

Not sure it would affect much but the crowd.

I read everything you posted Mr Touchy

I just pointed out that saying Big Red could handle 3rd and long well was based on the cupcakes they played so far. I'm sure that 3rd on long will be a bit different tonight

Rough morning haha

I agree. I am making the trip to see how they stack up against a quality opponent.

I'm not ready to crown them state champs because they have handled the teams they have played, but they have done what they needed to do up to this point. Can't ask for much more than that.

I also think that their opponents, are not as terrible as their records indicate.

wow. not exactly what I imagined.... 22-17 and it wasn't that close. BR tried to give the game away, there just wasn't a good team on the field to take it.

Judging by the crowd, you would have thought this was a home game for BR.

Worst BR has played this year with what had to be 15 or 20 uncalled for penalties. I was waiting for a good team...... to take advantage of a few of those mistakes. Did not happen.

BR still dominated time of possession and stats. Ursuline is NOT Ursuline of the last few years, not even close.

Other than a 64 yard run on the 1st series, Ursuline did absolutely nothing in this game. I would be surprised if they had 150 total yards even with that 64 yard run. Seemed like they forgot to bring that "Youngstown power running game"

They do have nice speed on defense. BR couldn't seem to get the corner all night. Good thing they didn't need to.

Other than Cleveland East Tech, I don't see ANY other wins on their schedule. Staring 2-8 right in the face? wow, I think it is very likely. Good job scheduling that killer schedule. Knocked yourself right out of the playoffs.

Steubenville gets Massilon at Harding Stadium. They get by that game and it will likely be a 10-0 season. Did not expect that this year, but if they try to give away the game to Massilon like they did tonight, Massilon is good enough to take it.

Someone from Ursuline should tell the AD that Mr. Football is long gone when they are setting up their schedule next year.

Not quite.

From the Vindicator: The Irish won the statistical battle, producing 240 yards (158 coming on the ground) while Big Red had 225 total yards.

I guess you are right. I just don't count an 80+ yard garbage time drive. But let's do tell the whole story. BR dominated T.O.P., 3rd down conversions, and yardage besides a very early 64 yard pop and an 84 yard too little too late drive with 2 minutes left when down by 12, so Ursuline had about 92 total yards, not including the first 2 or last 2 minutes?

Yah i'm still goin with domination

I didn't see the game, but how do you have garbage time in a 22-17 game? A team would only be an onside kick away from having a shot to win it.

It wasn't garbage time, but it seemed Big Red got relaxed and started to mix up the defense (going 3-4...all stand up..etc..) instead of just playing their normal 4-3. Ursuline brought in the throwing QB, and then when we were in the 3 man front we gave him too much time, so he completed some passes and they got the score to cut it to 22-17.

It was one of those games that if you were there you would feel that Big Red was dominating, even though the score didn't reflect it.

Also, Ursuline's first TD drive of the game was like 70 something yards, but half of that came on penalties.

The penalties are the only thing that kept Ursuline hanging around.

True. Technically not garbage time. Just making a point. The "middle 40+ minutes" was dominated by BR and the refs. Box score does not indicate what happened on the field.

Steubenville was not impressive, Ursuline was unimpressive.

Durkin came in and the Ursuline offense rolled down the field. With the RB at QB for 3.5 quarters, Ursuline had no chance of winning. With Durkin at QB, I truly believe there would have been a different outcome.

Still wanna know why Durkin, the starter all year, did not start. Heard he a had a bad fever earlier in the week, but he was in school the past few days and was kicking for the Irish.

Regardless congrats to Big Red.
