I was thinking about this earlier today, with Ashland and Mansfield Sr now having turf fields......What school in the OCC do you think will be the next with turf installed?
Lexington
Wooster
Orrville

Lex's field is a very nice grass field.....Wooster needs it the most (for the comfort of the band)....and I think we wait until at least after the high school is done. I'd guess Wooster.OQB;906159 wrote:I was thinking about this earlier today, with Ashland and Mansfield Sr now having turf fields......What school in the OCC do you think will be the next with turf installed?

I would love for Orrville to be the next one, but who knows. I was thinking Lexington as well...They got some money over there and have had good athletic success.

Probably the right call...the starter through the first 3 games was like 5 for 34. If the sophomore led a comeback after losing Dorsey, I'd say he's up for another look.you think you know;906276 wrote:[INDENT]Heard on the radio that sophomore quarterback Jalen Reese is going to get the start friday. No way Wooster goes to turf. There is absolutely no reason to since we don't care about the program.

Go right ahead. You do know they just committed $750,000 to completely renovate the auditorium....and gave a sizeable chunk toward the multi-purpose building? I'd say it's up to every interested business in Orrville EXCEPT Smuckers to make this turf thing happen. Scott's, Smith Dairy, JLG, one of the banks......imagine the good PR if PNC stepped up and did this.footballnut;906709 wrote:Somebody go talk to the Smucker boys and get us a turf field.............any volunteers?

Here's a scenario for you:
Have 5 of the Major Companies in Orrville donate $100,000 (Smith Dairy, Scots, JLG, Wilburt, Smuckers)
That would give you $500,000 to start the fund.
If you could get the other smaller businesses in Orrville to contribute to raise another $100,000 you would have a total of $600,000.
If you are still short, (not sure how much turf costs these days, probably 500,000-700,000) You can do what you did with the Multi-purpose building and reach out to those willing to donate towards a turf field...I know I would donate money toward it, and I'm willing to bet most of you guys would too.
Also, Flash or someone who knows this will have to fill us in. I know the other schools came in under budget, and most likely the high school will too... Do we keep that money that the state gave us for these new schools or do they take it back? I say that only because if their is enough money leftover, are we allowed to use it for turf...which would be improving our facilities?

Well if Wooster had turf, the soccer teams and the band wouldn't get all muddy and the band parents would save on cleaning. Does the lacrosse team play there also?CCRolly;906742 wrote:No way Wooster goes to turf. There is absolutely no reason to since we don't care about the program.
Maybe have outdoor speech and debate matches.

I dont think cost savings from Ohio Schools Facilities Commission money can go toward permanent improvement projects.OQB;906787 wrote:Here's a scenario for you:

Flash can correct me if I'm wrong, but the state is pretty specific as to what the money can and can't be spent on...otherwise, you'd have everyone skimping on classroom space to spend on athletic improvement or other pet projects.

OQB,
Great idea though...Even if you stretched it out to 10 businesses who contribute $50,000, then take it to the community for the other 100-200k.
Give those 10 businesses some sort of permanent recognition like they did in Copley.
It could be done.

Yeah give them a permanent spot for advertising or something like that. You could also give a company the option to have the naming rights to the field...if they donated all the money.

PNC...National City...Orrville Savings...Natio0nal Savings...heck they have all changed names so many times in the last few years that I don't see how they could commit to something like that. Could you imagine naming the field "PNC Field" and then 2 yrs later PNC is taken over by lets say Hunington Bank...then what???
I think the best chance for turf is to have the big businesses in town donate and add in individual donations just as we did for the Multi-purpose...

Good point, but I do believe PNC won't be changing.

Wonder why they made the team area completely orange and did not make a white coaching box per OHSAA guidelines.OQB;901268 wrote:
I agree that they should get a bunch of playoff games. Ashland's turf is getting old, the visitor section is bad and the locker rooms are ancient.

Good point about the coaches box....that is interesting.
As for Ashland, the turf is only 5 years old, lol not old by any means. Where Ashland needs to do better is visitor stands and locker rooms like you said.
